    Your work will be in support of Field and Safety Instruments (FSI), a business unit of the Chemical Analysis Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific. Our products are used by the military, law enforcement, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and industrial clients in metal fabrication, mining exploration and consumer product safety.

    This internship position in the Quality Assurance Department provides an opportunity for engineering students who are currently pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree to get hands on experience working with engineers and technicians in a fast paced manufacturing environment. The intern will collaborate with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing and R&D staff members and contribute to product and process improvement projects and manufacturing validation activities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    • Gather and analyze materials non-conforming data to determine statistical trends
    • Employ standard troubleshooting protocols on equipment and related subsystems (root cause investigation and corrective action implementation)
    • Perform failure analysis for mechanical assemblies and components
    • Create and update documentation for manufacturing standards of work, including solid modeling and drawings in Solidworks
    • Assist engineers in performing product and component validation testing
    • Compile and analyze validation data, prepare reports and make recommendations for changes and/or improvements
    • Support engineering changes for existing products and/or processes
    • May be required to perform other related duties as needed
    • Follow all site safety requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

    • Currently pursuing a BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred)
    • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering design principles.
    • Advanced understanding of, and experience with SolidWorks including , geometric dimensioning and tolerancing; injection molded plastic design is a plus.
