Overview:

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Intern to assist our Grand Island, NY EHS team with driving and completing safety related tasks. He/She will work closely with the EHS Manager and Specialist and will help develop or lead specific projects.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the EHS team with maintaining the company’s safety management system objectives.
• Review and maintain the site Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database.
• Provide support with conducting and documenting assessments (risk assessments, job safety analysis, ergonomic assessments, PPE assessments, etc.)
• Maintain the sites Safety, Health, and Environmental Database (SHED) and run reports.
• Assist with training development and review.
• Help drive corrective action closure.
• Other technical and general duties as required and requested in support of the site EHS department.

Qualifications: Skills/Knowledge

• Background in Science, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Health and Safety.
• Preferred level of education 2nd year undergraduate degree or above.
• Understanding of basic manufacturing safety hazards.
• Familiarity with basic principles of OSHA and EPA regulation.
• General understanding of how to use Microsoft platforms (e.g. Word, Excel, Power point)

Special Work Areas:

• Must be able to walk around Grand Island facility and enter manufacturing/laboratory areas.
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, goggles, hearing protection, lab coat, gloves, etc.) when entering labs or manufacturing areas.
• Must be comfortable with working in both an office and industrial setting.
