    Research & Development Operations Intern Job Locations US-WI-Madison Req No. 2018-2309 Category Internships Type Intern Summary of Major Responsibilities The R&D Lab Operations Intern is responsible for assisting with R&D Laboratory support activities. This includes stocking supplies, receiving materials, disposal of materials, cleaning, maintenance, and assisting with specimen processing. This position is for 32 hours per week on average, Tuesday through Friday. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Reports to work on time, and follows attendance guidelines Conducts all assigned job duties in a timely and productive manner Performs all job duties according to laboratory policies and procedures Stock general lab supplies and improve the organization of lab materials Receive incoming shipments of consumables Monitor and address the needs for disposal of lab materials according to protocol Assess the cleanliness of laboratories and assist as needed Assist with the maintenance of various lab instrumentation and associated computers Participate in other lab management activities as required Follows proper specimen identification procedures in the execution of all job duties Accessions and processes specimens with emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, completeness and compliance Processes specimens according to established Work Instructions Prepares electronic records for all specimens Handles and disposes of all specimens following universal precautions and applicable safety policies Supports and complies with the companys hazardous waste management program, including following safe, hazardous waste handling practices Operates and maintains scientific instrumentation as required Qualifications Mandatory Skills Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions Demonstrated basic understanding of laboratory terminology and equipment Ability to perform repetitive tasks Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff through both verbal and written communications Education and Experience High School experience required Previous experience in a laboratory classroom setting preferred Working knowledge of basic software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); email preferably Outlook Desired Characteristics Disciplined and reliable; able to stay focused on a task and work independently; motivated to perform quality work; diligent about arriving to work on time and completing tasks that are assigned in a timely manner Able to respond to new information quickly Strong attention to detail and focus on quality output Physical Requirements Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds Ability to stand, walk, bend and reach on a regular basis Ability to utilize lab equipment for up to 4 hours per day (includes pipetting, etc.) Ability to use and wear safety protective gear/equipment (e.g. safety glasses, lab coat, gloves, etc.) and follow safety guidelines while in the lab, etc. Ability to work at a laboratory bench or fume hood for extended periods of time Ability to work with hazardous or flammable materials so as not to endanger oneself or others Ability to work with blood and tissue Ability to constantly move about to coordinate work and interact with co-workers #LI-SR1 Exact Sciences is an equal employment opportunity employer.
