Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with a growing healthcare organization in the Los Angeles, CA area to recruit an experienced Executive Vice President of Finance with deep expertise in laboratory revenue cycle management and reimbursement strategy.
This executive leadership role is designed for a finance leader with extensive experience supporting laboratory billing, reimbursement, payer contracting, and revenue optimization. The successful candidate will drive financial strategy for laboratory services, improve revenue cycle performance, strengthen payer relationships, and develop initiatives that maximize reimbursement while ensuring regulatory compliance.
Candidates should reside in—or be willing to relocate to—the Tacoma, Washington area. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
Position Overview
The Executive Vice President of Finance will provide strategic leadership for all aspects of laboratory revenue cycle operations, financial performance, reimbursement strategy, and revenue integrity. This individual will collaborate closely with executive leadership to develop initiatives that improve collections, reduce denials, enhance payer performance, and support the organization's continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Cycle Operations
Direct all aspects of the laboratory revenue cycle, including:
Patient registration and demographic validation
Insurance verification
Charge capture and coding
Claims processing and submission
Denial management
Accounts receivable oversight
Patient billing and collections
Develop performance metrics that improve cash flow and reduce revenue leakage.
Implement strategies to increase first-pass claim acceptance and decrease claim denials.
Partner with laboratory operations to ensure accurate documentation, ordering, and billing practices.
Reimbursement & Payer Strategy
Develop reimbursement strategies across Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and managed care payers.
Analyze reimbursement trends and identify opportunities to improve financial performance.
Lead financial analysis and negotiations related to payer agreements.
Oversee laboratory pricing strategies and fee schedule management.
Build and maintain productive relationships with payer organizations.
Revenue Integrity & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure billing and reimbursement activities comply with applicable CMS, OIG, CLIA, and other regulatory requirements.
Lead internal reviews and audits related to coding accuracy, reimbursement, and documentation.
Identify potential compliance risks and implement corrective actions.
Collaborate with compliance, legal, and operational leadership to maintain strong revenue integrity programs.
Financial Planning & Analytics
Develop reporting and financial dashboards focused on laboratory reimbursement and revenue performance.
Monitor revenue by payer, testing category, service line, and client segment.
Deliver financial forecasts and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
Evaluate profitability across testing services and recommend pricing or operational improvements.
Lead budgeting and forecasting activities related to revenue cycle operations.
Leadership
Provide leadership and mentorship to billing, collections, reimbursement, and finance teams.
Establish performance standards, productivity benchmarks, and accountability measures.
Promote continuous improvement initiatives and professional development within the department.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related discipline.
MBA, MHA, or other advanced degree preferred.
Experience
At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare finance or revenue cycle management.
Minimum of 5 years leading revenue cycle operations within a clinical laboratory environment.
Demonstrated success improving laboratory reimbursement performance and financial outcomes.
Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and commercial payer reimbursement.
Experience working within clinical laboratory operations and regulatory environments.
Preferred Skills & Expertise
Extensive knowledge of laboratory billing, coding, and reimbursement methodologies.
Strong understanding of CPT coding, laboratory fee schedules, and payer reimbursement models.
Expertise with CMS regulations and laboratory compliance standards.
Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis capabilities.
Experience utilizing Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), EMR platforms, and revenue cycle software.
Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.
Preferred Credentials
CPA, HFMA, CHFP, CRCR, or comparable professional certification.
Previous experience within independent clinical laboratories, molecular diagnostics, pathology, toxicology, genetic testing, or specialty laboratory organizations.
Experience overseeing outsourced billing vendors or revenue cycle service partners.
