Field Applications Scientist Senior Intern

    This is a remote internship role. Intern can sit at any United States location, prefer California or other western US location. Looking for Master's degree students ONLY.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    A cell culture and cell therapy field applications senior intern is the primary technical interface between the internal team and the external customers. The primary function of the FAS is to provide technical consulting and troubleshooting for the customer enabling them to identify the best cell culture and cell therapy solutions to meet their needs. In this role, the FAS will work with a cross functional team to support the needs of our customers. The FAS will work independently and in collaboration with the commercial team to bring these solutions to our customers. Additionally, the FAS plays a critical role in supporting R&D and Product Management in identifying new product development opportunities. The FAS will support customers with cell culture and cell therapy activities related to protein and virus production, as well as cell and gene therapy applications. Discussions and needs will vary based on the customer, but may include, transient and stable cell line development, medium and feed selection and optimization, and process development and scale-up.

    • Participate in technical interactions with customers.
    • Participate in technical product specification, application and protocol optimization discussions with clients and prospects for defined cell culture and cell therapy portfolio requests.
    • Participate as a field technical interface with the commercial team and the customer focused on cell culture and cell therapy; involving other internal FAS resources as necessary to provide appropriate guidance and information.
    • Participate in troubleshooting on issues that arise related to end-user's technical skills, cell line, media and feed selection and optimization, experiment design and interpretation of results for media development/optimization process.
    • Collaborate with commercial partners, Bioproduction Account Managers and Technical Sales Specialists, to drive technical engagement and Technical Support.
    • Competently deliver technical presentations that complement Commercial Sales activities.

    CELL CULTURE:

    • Support catalog products in technical discussions on upstream processing challenges and solutions.
    • Media and feed selection and optimization in upstream process development.
    • Cell-line selection in upstream process development.
    • Knowledge of and ability to recommend Gibco™ PD-Express™ Services for upstream process development.
    • Experience with bioreactor use.
    • Knowledge of process scale up and optimization.
  • Qualifications

    Preferred background/Qualifications:

    • Master's degree candidate in Life Sciences (Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Engineering)
    • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
    • Basic understanding of upstream and downstream process development, specifically with cell culture and cell therapy
    • Experience interacting with internal clients required; experience with external clients preferred

    TRAVEL:

    Approximately 50%. Given the current circumstances, our team is not traveling but we hope that by summer 2021 if things get back to "normal", intern will be required to travel (company will be responsible for all travel expenses).
