    Pleasant Prairie, WI | Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–6:30 PM

We are seeking a detail-oriented, motivated Histology Grossing Technician who is passionate about precision, quality, and supporting exceptional patient care. In this hands-on role, you'll play a crucial part in preparing tissue specimens, performing grossing and/or microtomy, organizing lab materials, and ensuring smooth daily operations within a high-volume dermatopathology laboratory.

    What You’ll Do

    Grossing & Microtomy

    • Perform grossing of patient tissue specimens, including measuring, inking, cutting, and accurate data entry.

    • Meet efficiency benchmarks, including the ability to gross 40 shave biopsy specimens per hour (error-free).

    • Perform microtomy, cutting 20–25 tissue blocks per hour while consistently producing high-quality slides.

    • Prepare and mount tissue samples onto slides for H&E staining.

    Specimen Processing & Material Management

    • Accession and receive specimens using the LIS.

    • Track and retrieve materials for grossing and microtomy workflows.

    • File, organize, and maintain tissue blocks and slides.

    Reagent, Solution & Equipment Handling

    • Prepare alcohol solutions and maintain staining instruments.

    • Handle chemical recycling, neutralization, and disposal safely.

    • Clean, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment per schedule.

    Slide Production & Workflow Support

    • Prepare specimens and materials for grossing.

    • Embed tissue samples once trained.

    • Organize paraffin blocks for microtome cutting.

    • Assist with staining processes, slide assembly, and cover slipping.

    • Assemble slide trays for pathologist review.

    Lab Organization & Quality Control

    • Maintain a clean, well-organized lab environment.

    • Record daily temperatures for lab instruments and equipment.

    • Monitor inventory and restock supplies.

    • Follow all QC procedures and comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and CLIA standards.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Complete compliance training and follow all safety protocols.

    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

    What You Bring

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field required

    • Experience in tissue grossing and/or microtomy preferred; must meet efficiency benchmarks

    • Ability to type at least 45 WPM (preferred)

    • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

    • Outstanding communication and customer service abilities

    • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment

    • Professional, friendly, and positive attitude

    • Strong understanding of medical terminology preferred

    • Ability to follow physician instructions and know when to seek clarification

    • Commitment to confidentiality and regulatory compliance

    • Ability to communicate effectively in a busy laboratory environment

    • Ability to operate standard office and lab equipment

    • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
