  • Responsibilities

    This position provides quality service to patients in the clinic and via alternate communication methods (telephone, email, etc.)  Medical Assistants assist the medical providers, serve as liaisons between patients and providers, and perform Medical Reception tasks (reception, telephone, scheduling) as needed. This position will float between Wilkes Barre & Kingston.

    • Become familiar with provider tendencies and provider’s established patient’s conditions.
    • Knowledge of the Patient Centered Medical Home concept.
    • Distribute Patient Agenda.
    • Complete medication reconciliation every visit, including over the counter meds.
    • Complete Family and Social histories.
    • Move patients from waiting room to treatment room.
    • Perform vital signs, acquiring any recent test results, and ascertain reason for visit.
    • Prepare patient and gathering all necessary information.
    • Report any changes observed in condition or behavior of patient. 
    • Prepare room for the practitioner.
    • Perform simple procedures according to Wright Center  medical policy/procedures.
    • Give inoculations; draw blood, EKGs and /or any other provider requests.
    • Participate in quality assurance activities to monitor and improve patient care quality.
    • Complete  any forms or growth charts as appropriate before practitioner sees patient.
    • Assist with examination, diagnostic and treatment procedures.
    • Enter requisitions in EMR.
    • Prepare and send out specimens.
    • Stock treatment rooms and all clinical areas as needed on a daily basis; alerting Practice Administrator of any supplies that need to be ordered.
    • Keep all exam rooms, hall, and lab area neat and clean.
    • Follow all standing orders as needed.
    • Facilitate spirometry, audiometry, BP checks, allergy shots, UA/UC, urine drug screens and other procedures that are necessary.
    • Attend all staff meetings.
    • Provide back-up to other co-workers as necessary.
    • Understand and adhere to professional office standards.
    • Be familiar with and implementing all office policies and  procedures.
    • Participate when appropriate in unit-based quality initiatives.
    • Perform Laboratory testing.
    • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and in compliance with legal regulations.
    • Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, and other hazardous substances.
    • Prepare and administer medications and injections per provider.
    • Make timely call backs and inform patients of their test results.
    • The position works in close support of clinic medical director, physicians, nurses, care manager and other providers.
    • HIPAA policies regarding privacy and security of patient health information will be exercised by this position at all times.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Graduate of a program for Medical Assistant/Administrative Medical Assistant required.
    • Must hold designation as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
    • Current Pennsylvania certification of Medical Assistant.
    • Strong written and oral communications and interpersonal skills.
    • Must have working knowledge of electronic medical records.
    • Computer knowledge and skills required.
    • Ability to work independently and as a team.
    • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Good judgment and decision-making skills.
    • Comfortable discussing sensitive health issues with patients.
    • Ability to uphold patient confidentiality with the utmost professionalism.
    • Basic Life Support/CPR certification required.

    Required Experience

    • Previous experience in healthcare (1-3 years).
    • Demonstrated appropriate knowledge of various required treatments.
    • Experience as a Medical Assistant in a physician office practice setting preferred.
  • Qualifications
