    Intern/Co-op CMC 130 Brookline St. Cambridge, MA 02139 Internships/Co-ops Internships/Co-ops Intern/Co-op -COMPANY: Intellia is a leading gene editing company, focused on the development of proprietary, potentially curative therapeutics using a recently developed biological tool known as the CRISPR/Cas9 system. Intellia believes the CRISPR/Cas9 technology has the potential to transform medicine by permanently editing disease-associated genes in the human body with a single treatment course. SUMMARY: Intellia is seeking a motivated Co-op student or intern to join our Process Development team for Fall 2018. The initial responsibilities for this position will be to support scaled-up synthesis and purification ofin vitrotranscribed mRNA for applications in the CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system. The position will lead to process development training in the areas of biochemistry analytics and purification of nucleic acid. The ideal candidate has familiarity with general biochemical analytical methods and equipment as well as general lab safety. -GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: -Assist in optimizing clinical scale in vitro transcription and purification of mRNA. -Support internal R&D mRNA optimization projects including construct optimization, process development and analytics. -Support analytical methods development for mRNA product quality. -perform routine characterization of nucleic acid and associated raw materials -Provide high quality data to drive decision making in the CMC team and maintain up-to-date -Work effectively with some independence and in collaboration with colleagues in support of project goals. -Communicate research and development findings with internal teams, including contributions to written reports and oral presentations. -Operate multiple laboratory instruments -REQUIRED SKILLS: -An understanding of basic molecular biology techniques is required with a preference for working experience. -Able to train on and then execute and biochemical methods by following process batch records or SOPs for mRNA and proteins -Some general knowledge and experience in process development or with assay development for biomacromolecules (e.g. electrophoresis, enzyme reactions, and/or PCR) -Able to thoroughly document your work in an electronic notebook system (training to be provided). -QUALIFICATIONS: -Working towards a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering with some prior hands-on lab experience -Attention to detail -Effective communication skills (both written and oral) -Ability to work independently and collaboratively COMPANY INFORMATION:Intellia Therapeutics was formed in 2014 to develop curative medicines that utilize CRISPR/Cas9 technology.
