    Internship Summary:

    The Chemistry R&D Internship position provides an opportunity for a self-motivated and independent synthetic/bio-chemist who are currently pursuing a chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering degree to get additional laboratory experience while working with other research and development scientists in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will apply chemistry skills to contribute to development projects and produce high-quality research- and bioconjugate products for life scientists. The position is for three months in the summer of 2019.

    Responsibilities

    • Design and execution of experimental plans, troubleshooting, data analysis and preparation, and reporting experimental results
    • Perform laboratory tasks independently and safely
    • Effectively collaborate with internal R&D and business work groups
    • Make recommendations to the business based on previous experience with various synthetic and biochemical techniques
    • Keeping up-to-date on new developments in both (bio)chemistry and life-science fields
    • Generate solutions for solving problems during product development with an understanding of customer needs
    • Maintain a detailed and accurate laboratory notebook

    Desired Skills

    • Hands-on laboratory experience in fluorophore conjugations to proteins and/or chemical linkers with knowledge in multiple conjugation chemistries
    • Experience in purification of protein-fluorophore and/or fluorophore-linker conjugates using chromatographic techniques
    • Practiced with protein and bioconjugate characterization techniques (e.g. UV-Vis, TLC, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, ELISA, etc.)
    • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
    • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work alongside colleagues from different backgrounds in a team-oriented environment
    • The ability to identify potential problems and provide relevant solutions
    • Skilled in statistical data analysis techniques using appropriate spreadsheet and graphing software

    Requirements To be eligible for an internship, students must:

    • Have a B.S. degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or other relevant field
    • Be enrolled in an accredited advanced degree program
    • Have at least one year experience in a research laboratory setting
    • Have completed at least one semester/quarter of classwork in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field
    • Be available for a three-month internship in the summer of 2019
