    Mechanical Engineering Intern

    The 2021 Thermo Fisher Scientific Mechanical Engineering Internship Program is a 12-week summer internship program crafted for high potential rising juniors and seniors majoring in engineering. Interns will work with the Rockford engineering team. This mentorship will assist in improving the intern’s skill.

    The internship provides opportunities for current university students to get hands-on experience partnering with our Engineering teams with a focus on equipment and process development. Interns receive formalized feedback, structured training, and mentoring while participating in various key mechanical Engineering initiatives.

    This program provides an opening for an early career Engineer to experience different stages of the equipment development-cycle, utilizing various engineering principles and methodologies to help develop solutions and drive revenue with the manufacturing area.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-functional team
    • Ability to learn, be mentored, and improve
    • Desire to contribute and improve design of new and existing manufacturing equipment
    • Outstanding creative thinking
    • Hands on with design and assembly
    • Ability to work with basic hand tools and fixtures

    Qualifications

    • All candidates must be currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the Engineering field, Mechanical and/or Manufacturing is preferred.
    • Strong desire and motivation to develop a career as a future leader in the Engineering function
    • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
    • Experience with CAD software
    • Results oriented through initiative, ownership, and accountability
    • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status

    Mechanical Engineering Intern to aid in automation equipment, production support, equipment maintenance and support of Rockford and Madison facilities.

    • Assist in CAD drawing updates, creating CAD drawings and helping the plastics team
    • Supplier investigations that are occurring, inspect parts, run analysis projects, and capture data
    • Aid in automation line support and collecting validation data
    • Tool design for engineering solutions
    • Spare parts organization, cataloging and stock assessment
    • Equipment building and check out
    • Actively interface with manufacturing group, operation leaders, and other teams for innovative solutions.
    • Root cause corrective action analysis
    • Machine trouble-shooting
