Established in 1976 and with offices in Washington, D.C., India, and Africa, ICRW provides evidence-based research to inform policies and programs that alleviate poverty, promote gender equality and protect the rights of women and girls. Corporations, foundations, governments and civil society organizations partner with ICRW to discover through rigorous research how to dismantle barriers and help women and girls achieve their full potential. ICRWs focus areas include adolescent girls, agriculture and food security, economic empowerment, HIV and AIDS, population and reproductive health, gender-based and intimate partner violence. At ICRW, we believe that research can and should be a process of social change, and employ participatory methods whenever appropriate. Further, ICRW pursues intersectional research to the greatest extent possible when resources allow. All research we undertake serves to advance ICRWs mission of promoting gender equality and inclusion and in eliminating poverty. Overview: Depending on interests, interns will have to opportunity to gain experience in, be mentored on, and build knowledge about a variety of thematic areas. An internship with ICRW offers an opportunity to hone skills in research and implementation science, gender diagnostics, strategy development, program design, M&E, capacity building and training, and advocacy and policy engagement. Interns will be encouraged to join team meetings, attend events, and contribute to projects that align with her/his interests. Internships are available on an unpaid basis. We ask that interns commit at least 2 months to working with ICRW staff on projects within their interest area. They will work under the guidance and mentorship of the assigned team, but may also coordinate with relevant members of research teams whose work ties into other funded priorities. Activities Completed by Interns Vary by Department and May Include, within the Policy Advocacy group: * Issue tracking and coalition meetings * Developing profiles of policy-makers * Assisting in the drafting of coalition or Congressional letters and advocacy materials * Maintaining institutional advocacy records including taking notes in coalition meetings * Survey design * Curriculum design * Drafting social media toolkits ahead of important events * Literature reviews Responsibilities May Include, within the Research group: * Conduct costing or policy analyses and write policy briefs. * Aid in strategy development for projects. * Support data analysis and the production of research products for projects. * Contribute to information gathering, literature reviews, and other types of research and support the creation of dissemination products as needed. * Participate in and aid in taking minutes on calls and in-person meetings both internally and externally. * Assist in event preparation and execution, including drafting event flow, assisting with set-up and break-down, and participating in social media outreach. * Contribute to social media through blogs and the drafting of social media toolkits. * Provide support for other assignments as needed General Skills and Qualities for Strong Candidates: * Experience working abroad and/or across cultural divides * Data visualization can you take the data and tell us a story about it? * Strong writing skills can you summarize data and create clear, concise reports and memos? * Policy analysis skills, including some experience in drafting policy briefs * Research experience with strong mixed-method skills both qualitative and quantitative, including use of: SAS, STATA, Atlas TI, NVivo, and Excel * Humility understanding that youre always learning and are open to and accepting of constructive feedback * Active listening- we like people to share thoughts and listen and learn about what others have to say * Articulate with strong communication skills * Ability to plan ahead, strategize and use proficient time management skills to juggle multiple tasks at once * Self-starters and ability to collaborate as part of a team * Experience with social media in a professional setting Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest summarizing their background and where their interests lie within ICRW programs, a resume, and a 2-page writing sample online.
