Intern - Finance IFPRI (International Food Policy Research Institute) - Washington, DC Contract, Internship JOB SUMMARY HarvestPlus seeks a highly-motivated Finance Intern to join our team. The successful candidate will provide general accounting and financial management support. This is a non-exempt, fixed-term appointment, and is renewable contingent upon continued satisfactory performance and program funding. The position is located at HarvestPlus headquarters in Washington, DC. This three-month internship requires a 30 hours/week commitment. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES Under the guidance of the Business Manager, Budgets, Contracts and Grants, the intern will join HarvestPlus to provide support to the Finance Team. The internship provides the opportunity to develop the following skills/knowledge within the context of an international research and development organization: * Grants and contracts management * Valuable software skills used for project financial management and reporting * General accounting practices * Government, non-profit, and private donor and partner experience BACKGROUND HarvestPlus improves nutrition and public health by developing and promoting biofortified food crops that are rich in vitamins and minerals while providing global leadership on evidence and technology. HarvestPlus is part of the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH). CGIAR is a global agriculture research partnership for a food secure future. Its science is carried out by its 15 research centers in collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations. The HarvestPlus program is coordinated by two of these centers, the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). ESSENTIAL DUTIES Specific duties include but are not limited to: Accounting Support: * Assist with partner payment processing, monitoring, and confirming disbursement release/receipt * Assist with reclassification of financial accounts Budget & Contracts Support: * Assist with updating the Budgets and Contracts SharePoint files, ensuring fully signed contracts and amendments, approved technical and financial reports are saved in SharePoint * Assist with pre-agreement requirements including Lexis-Nexis checks on prospective partners * Assist with creation of standardized PDF Statement of Work template for research contracts * Assist with reviewing and uploading financial reports of institutional partners in OnBase Program Support: * Assist with updating and organizing various databases * Data entry and filing * Support Finance Team as needed REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Rising college senior, recent graduate, or graduate student majoring in Accounting, Business, Public Administration, or related field * Attention to detail
