    A key goal of the No Kid Hungry Campaign is to implement changes that will have a lasting impact to address child hunger issues in Michigan. The School Breakfast Contractor will implement the school breakfast expansion partnership of Share Our Strength and Michigan Department of Education, as part of the No Kid Hungry Michigan campaign, including engagement with schools, grant proposal assistance, and technical assistance support for select districts and schools in Michigan. The School Breakfast Contractor will provide the services below in coordination with Share Our Strength and Michigan Department of Education to increase participation in the school breakfast program in Michigan.

     

    THIS CONTRACT HAS A PROJECTED END DATE OF JUNE 30, 2020, AND IS A PART-TIME CONTRACTOR POSITION WITH NO BENEFITS.

     

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    BREAKFAST EXPANSION

    • Conduct outreach to build relationships with school and district stakeholders, such as school nutrition directors, school health/wellness coordinators, principals, superintendents, teachers, Boards of Education, parents, and community stakeholders.
    • Inform and guide school/district stakeholders regarding Breakfast After the Bell implementation via resources, phone calls, site visits, presentations at school stakeholder events, etc.
    • Develop and initiate plans to engage key influencers to help accelerate school breakfast expansion, including identifying and recognizing “breakfast champions” (principals, teachers, custodial staff, students, parents, and school board members, coordinated school health coordinators) to serve as peer leaders or spokespeople.
    • Present to diverse stakeholders on the need for breakfast expansion.
    • Promote grants to schools/districts via marketing efforts and individual school/district outreach. Support schools in grant proposal submission process.
    • Assist in evaluation of school breakfast grants and monitor grant use to ensure effective implementation.
    • Assist in developing and distributing outreach materials including toolkits, student surveys, electronic newsletters and other materials to all relevant stakeholders.
    • Provide technical assistance around school breakfast expansion and implementation of Breakfast After the Bell models via site visits, phone calls, emails, and resource distribution.
    • Develop collaborative relationships with local partners and coordinate breakfast expansion efforts.

     

    REPORTING, TRACKING AND ORGANIZATIONAL COLLABORATION

    • Participate in bi-weekly communication with Share Our Strength and Michigan Department of Education to share progress, refine strategy, coordinate efforts, and discuss potential opportunities.
    • Conduct regular site visits to program grantees and focus schools/districts, identifying challenges and opportunities, and work with Share Our Strength and Michigan Department of Education to identify technical assistance intervention opportunities, trainings, and solutions for schools/districts.
    • Examine school-level breakfast participation data to identify which breakfast serving models are most effective, and determine how implementation support may be needed to improve breakfast participation.

    Required Skills

     

    • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5-7 years minimum experience in school setting, including nutrition programs or education.
    • Proven relationship management experience with school and high-level stakeholders.
    • Knowledge of implementation and administration of School Breakfast Program and Breakfast After the Bell models.
    • Strong computer skills, including Excel and PowerPoint, as well as the ability to quickly learn new software programs and online platforms
    • Driver's license and car required; travel will be expected throughout the state.
    • Ability to travel up to 40-50% of the time, including overnight and occasional weekend travel.
    • Must reside in Michigan.
