Responsibilities You will be a Summer Intern supporting the Scientific Applications Software Engineering Group (398P), supporting the Planetary Data System (PDS) Cartography and Imaging Node, which hold all non-Earth NASA imagery (e.g. Mars surface and orbital imagery) for long term archive and access. In recent years, the focus of enabling discovery of data has gone towards Content Based retrieval of imagery (i.e. features within the images). To enable this technique of image search requires machine learning and labels on data. The imaging node is looking to further operationalize its infrastructure for content based discovery. The recruited candidate will be working to explore and prototype new ways in which we present image labels to our end users, provide means to curate said annotations and retrain our research models in operations. The end goal is to augment our Image Atlas application which is a premiere tool for finding and access data from our archive. Qualifications Required Qualifications:Must be currently enrolled full-time at a university pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or similar discipline. Minimum GPA 3.0.Must be available to work full time during the summer for an 8-12 week assignment.Has wide-ranging exposure and advanced knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Python, Unix, Machine Learning with imagery, JavascriptCompleted coursework with extensive understanding and wide application to standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques in Applied Sciences in Engineering and Computer ScienceStrong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
