Job Description

The Lab Pack Manager is responsible for supervising the lab pack field team and the facility retail/lab pack de-packing team. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient packaging, handling, and processing of retail and lab pack waste at the Clean Earth facility. They will also ensure that the teams consistently meet regulatory and safety compliance measures and operate in a productive and profitable manner in accordance with Clean Earth policies, practices, and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions): The main duties and responsibilities.

• Manages all aspects of the lab pack field team including hiring, training, development, and performance in accordance with HR policies and practices.
• Coordinate lab pack field projects as needed that may include high hazard services, HHW, or any business-related needs.
• Manage the team responsible for the de-packing of lab pack and retail waste including all reactives,
• cylinders, and specialty waste.
• Acts as a technical resource for the team as well as customer service and sales.
• Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction, both internally and externally.
• Submits lab pack consolidation sheets to end disposal facilities for approval.
• Works with management team to implement, update, and develop standard work practices.
• Ensures appropriate paperwork is completed and data is entered correctly in system including manifest and land disposal restriction forms.
• Assists in ensuring that the plant meets regulatory and safety compliance measures and operates in a safe, productive, and profitable manner.
• Ensures compliance with all program objectives.
• Performs periodic audits and review of inbound containers and provides feedback to appropriate management group.
• Administers all Clean Earth Company policies and procedures, communicates to staff and when necessary, ensures compliance.
• Support sales department in the implementation of new accounts, presentation of services, response to inquiries and technical information.
• Report any incidents, injuries or safety concerns to management in a timely manner.
• Adhere to and abide by CE safety and security policies and procedures (e.g. Cardinal Rules, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and Transportation Manual).
• Other duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned by management.

Work Environment:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods including climbing in and out of the back of a commercial truck.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 55 pounds regularly, with and without assistance.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and indoors in non-climate-controlled environments.
• Visual acuity to read labels and documentation and sufficient depth perception to safely operate forklifts.
• Ability to hear vehicle warning chimes, alarms, and other audible safety signals.
• Ability and willingness to wear company-issued personal protection equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed boots, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator as needed.
• Subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving vehicles, electrical current, and exposure to chemicals.
• Must be able to regularly access and use general office equipment including phones, computers, copiers, etc.
• Must be able to work in a busy, often distracting work environment that is generally climate controlled.
• Based on service center level and location, this position may light to moderate travel as business requires.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• Associate’s degree in area of General Science or equivalent experience
• Two or more years of field management experience
• Five or more years of experience in lab packing and/or segregating pharmaceutical waste
• Valid driver's license

Experience: (Required minimum of years of relevant experience.)

• BS/BA in science related field​​​​​
• Must be 21 years of age in accordance with FMCSA guidelines
• Driver’s license with safe driving record and ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within
• 6 months of hire
• Current Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC) and valid TWIC card or ability to obtain within 6
• months of hire
• HAZMAT and/or Tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
• Completion of 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
• 40 hours of de-packing experience
• Hazardous waste processing experience preferred

Skills: (The skills listed are the abilities and knowledge required to perform the job effectively.)

• Strong understanding of chemistry through general chemistry or biology
• Well-developed knowledge of Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA), Department of
• Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Toxic
• Substance Control Act (TSCA) regulations
• Familiarity with state regulations within service area
• Ability to operate powered equipment such as a forklift
• Ability to operate a computer with Windows-based programs
• Strong communication skills and ability to politely deal with customers and team members
• Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug test, and/or DEA background check
• Ability to complete Clean Earth Lab Pack Training/Onboarding (24 hours) after hire
• Ability to read a map
• Fluency in verbal and written English

This position requires a CDL B to be obtained within a 6-month period from your start date. Failure to obtain a CDL B within the 6-month period will mean you are no longer eligible for the Lab Pack Manager position.

This position is also contingent upon successful completion of a DOT physical, DOT Drug Screen and any other DOL or company requirements.

Additional Information

Starting salary - $85,000 based on experience

Pay and benefits for employees represented by a union are outlined in their collective bargaining agreement.

Sick leave – 24 hours; Observed Holidays – 2 floating days and 8 paid holiday; Vacation – 112 hours
