    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position must actively participate in their development plan to become a Maintenance Technician. This plan will be agreed upon by the Central Technical Service Manager and Direct Supervisor.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Participate in projects at all phases to learn the skillsets needed to perform repair and preventative maintenance on all manufacturing equipment.
    • Learn various tasks performed relating to breakdowns and planned maintenance (PM’s). Work from approved blueprints, machine documentation and under close supervision of the assigned Senior Mechanic.
    • Train to use assorted shop equipment; grinders, lathe, drill press, sanders, cranes and lift trucks.
    • Participate in a formal 2-year Apprenticeship program through MCC and successfully complete.
    • Is required to furnish all tools required for the position (after receiving a starter set from Thermo Fisher), except for specialized tools.
    • Complete team assignments to support workload requirements.
    • Ensure all equipment and area are properly cleaned and maintained per PM, 5S guidelines, and safety.
    • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement activities through Kaizen participation (as required), making suggestions and otherwise improving processes, quality, and productivity.
    • Comply with all local, state, federal, and Thermo Fisher safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous waste regulations.
    • Comply with all local Thermo Fischer quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Will be expected to utilize SAP to track work performed, locate parts and account for time spent working on tasks or breakdowns.
  • Qualifications

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED is required.
    • Must have some mechanical and/or electrical experience.
    • Training, the ability and desire to learn and suggest process improvements. (Be engaged)
    • Flexible to work both Penfield and Fairport locations.
    • Must be licensed to drive both a stand-up aisle lift truck and electric and gas sit-down truck.
    • Knowledge of SAP as it relates to the tasks assigned.
    • At completion of apprenticeship the potential of being assigned to 2nd or 3rd shift.

    PROFESSIONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
