    SUMMARY OF INTERNSHIP

    During this program, the intern will be involved in developing a manufacturing process for small scale synthesis of oligonucleotides (up to 5nmoles scale). The advertised internship position provides an opportunity for students, who are pursuing a Chemistry or Biochemistry or Chemical engineering degree /Biochemistry, to get an exposure in the high throughput manufacturing of oligonucleotides. The position starts in June, paid working 40 hours per week through August.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Design and develop process for small scale oligonucleotide synthesis.
    • Develop analytical methods for qualifying the raw materials for small scale synthesis.
    • Accept candid feedback and look for areas of improvements.
    • Work with team to investigate trends and performs statistical analysis to analyze the trends.
    • Assist with practical process improvement efforts that improve the manufacturability of the product.
    • Work with team in troubleshooting instruments/processes.
    • Work with instruments that are used for oligonucleotide manufacturing such as oligonucleotide synthesizer, HPLC, MS, Spectrophotometer, PAGE, liquid handlers.
    • Prepare and present written and oral reports to manager.
    • Perform other responsibilities to support the needs of the department, as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Organic Chemistry/Biochemistry/Chemical Engineering student with a related knowledge and or experience in oligonucleotide manufacturing

    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
    • Must have strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate processes, timelines and schedules clearly
    • A Strong willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
    • Desire to contribute and improve the design of new and existing scientific instrumentation products
    • Must be capable of multi-tasking and being flexible to meet changing priorities
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications.
