    INTERN - NEMATOLOGY - Job Details Level Entry Job Location MAIN OFFICE - DAVIS, CA Education Level 4 Year Degree Job Shift Day Job Category Biotech DESCRIPTION The Intern Nematology will assist with our laboratory and greenhouse studies related to the development of a microbial biopesticide to control not only plant parasitic nematodes but also a wide variety of insect pest species. The Intern will assist in preparing materials for bioassays, establishing and maintaining nematode culture, and cleaning the lab and greenhouse. The Intern will also support other lab and greenhouse activities as required. - RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: - Maintain plant parasitic nematode culture and healthy plants in laboratory, growth room and greenhouse. - Extract plant parasitic nematode eggs and larval stages from plant roots and soil samples. - Prepare nematode inoculum to support the bioassay needs and culture maintenance - Prepare materials needed for bioassays and assist in setting up various bioassays (in vitro and in planta) to evaluate nematicidal and insecticidal candidates. - Record data and results in an organized fashion. - Keep clean the laboratory and the greenhouse (clean glassware, growing containers, benches and floors as needed). - Other duties as assigned Schedule will be established with supervisor upon hiring. QUALIFICATIONS A successful candidate is a quick-learner, innovative, creative and team oriented with: - Currently working towards a Bachelors degree in biological sciences. Prefer an emphasis in nematology or plant pathology. - Hands-on lab and greenhouse experience. - A professional and positive attitude. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. In addition, the Intern should have: - Good time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task. - Commitment to work at least 10-15 hours per week during the school year. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point). - Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. with help or independently occasionally. ESSENTIAL MENTAL AND PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: WORKING REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods. - Extensive use of microscope, computer keyboard, mouse and monitor. - Ability to lift at least 25 pounds. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in workload priorities, ability to prioritize tasks, ability to maintain confidentiality.
