    SUMMARY:

    Patheon (Pharmaceutical division of Thermo Fisher Scientific) has been a leader in pharmaceutical product development and manufacturing for customers. Patheon, Cincinnati is well equipped with technologies to develop a variety of oral dosage forms ranging from simple to complex dosage forms where drug release is regulated according to the patient needs. At this position, the intern will be associated with different stages of pharmaceutical product development like dosage form design, formulation development, unit operations, process optimization, scale-up activity and commercialization etc. The intern will get a chance to be exposed to different technologies like granulation, extrusion spheronization, milling, fluid bed processing, hot melt extrusion, tableting, coating, encapsulation, etc. The intern will collaborate with scientists and engineers on formulation development and technology transfer projects in support of drug product development for customers and/or internal research.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Hands-on work with small scale pharmaceutical process equipment, such as balances, blenders, mills, tablet presses, extruders, and fluid bed processor in a non-GMP development environment.

    Observation and support of GMP manufacturing processes on pilot and commercial scale equipment, working closely with scientists, engineers, and operators.

    Record and communicate the results of experiments and accurately documenting observations throughout the project. Review with team and present to internal partners.

    Collaborates with internal scientific, analytical, and quality teams to meet project objectives.

    Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, compliant and safe workspace.

    EDUCATION:

    High school diploma; currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and studying to obtain a Bachelor’s degree or any higher degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related scientific discipline.

    EXPERIENCE:

    Requires no previous related experience. Experience documenting experiments in lab notebooks through university course work or undergraduate research is preferred.

    COMPETENCIES:

    Good critical and logical thinking skills. Effective written, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand and walk; ability to lift and/or carry light objects of up to 25 lbs. for brief periods.
