Job Title: Phlebotomy Team Lead
Location: Raleigh, NC
Shift: Day; Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM, rotating every third weekend
Salary: $20-$23/hour
Overview:
The Phlebotomy Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Phlebotomy and Specimen Processing sections of the Clinical Laboratory. This role ensures accurate specimen collection and processing with minimal patient impact, while maintaining quality standards and regulatory compliance. The Team Lead organizes workflow, schedules staff, monitors performance, and provides training to ensure efficient laboratory operations and excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Process and allocate laboratory specimens and orders from various sources.
Collect specimens from patients of all age groups with accuracy and care.
Verify patient/specimen identification and ensure order appropriateness.
Organize daily workflow and assign staff duties within the department.
Monitor specimen collection processes and ensure adherence to protocols.
Provide training, maintain competency records, and ensure compliance with accrediting agencies.
Assist with writing, reviewing, and updating laboratory procedures.
Support Quality Assurance (QA) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
Participate in annual and introductory performance evaluations for assigned staff.
Represent the laboratory to hospital staff, patients, and other customers.
Work independently and collaboratively under minimal supervision.
Qualifications
Licensure:
Phlebotomy certification required within six (6) months of hire.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Graduate of an accredited Phlebotomy program required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Phlebotomist and in specimen processing in a clinical laboratory required.
Experience in a healthcare or multi-hospital system preferred.
