    SUMMARY OF INTERNSHIP

    The Process Development Chemist Internship position provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing a Masters degree in organic chemistry with emphasis on synthetic organic chemist to get hands on experience working with chemists/process engineers in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Process Development Chemist intern will contribute to process optimization and advance best design practices. THE POSITION STARTS IN MAY/JUNE, PAID WORKING 40 HOURS PER WEEK THROUGH AUGUST. Opportunity exists for this position to continue through the academic year on a part-time basis to allow for class schedules.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Provide support related to process development projects including design and testing
    • Support a variety of chemistry manufacturing activities and may be assigned to a variety of tasks throughout the department
    • Be involved with many aspects of process development and optimization tasks
    • Provide feedback on projects.
    • Learn about process organic chemistry and instrumentation through daily activities.
    • Accept candid feedback and look for areas of improvements
    • Specific tasks will be tailored to the Process Development Chemist Interns experience level and abilities
    • A Process Development Chemist intern works under the close supervision of senior chemists.
  • Qualifications
    • Masters in Chemistry with special emphasis on synthetic organic chemistry
    • Previous Internship Experience is desired
    • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
    • Experience with synthesis, purification and characterization of heterocyclic compounds using modern techniques

    • Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
    • Desire to contribute, improve and optimize current chemistry synthesis processes and clearly documenting procedures
    • Desire to teach other chemists in area of expertise
    • Familiarity with the use of NMR, HPLC, Mass, TLC etc for characterization and column chromatographic techniques for organic compounds purification
