Many of the foods we love, the medicines we need, and the cosmetics we use daily rely on a single ingredient – gelatin. For thousands of years, humans have scavenged animal scraps to obtain gelatin. Scavenging essential products from animals presents urgent economic problems, environmental problems, public health problems, and for many, moral problems.

At Geltor, we make real gelatin, without the animal.

We are looking for a Research Associate to carry out molecular biology experimentation that happens in the lab, usually maintaining numerous ongoing projects at a time.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all work, consistent with company policy and legal requirements
• Communicate findings effectively to the team, and understand how such findings relate to company R&D and production as a whole
• Stay up to date on lab inventory and equipment, and help maintain smooth daily operations
• Help foster a safe, collaborative and productive research environment

Position is a temp-to-hire after a 2 month evaluation period.

• Bachelor’s Degree in biology or a related area
• Foundational understanding of molecular biology and analytical principles from academic training or experience
• Exposure to standard strain development techniques, including microbial cell culture, gene/protein assays, and molecular cloning (i.e. DNA/RNA purification and quantification, PCR/qPCR, transformations, cloning, Gibson Assembly)
• Molecular Cloning, Cell Culture, Microbial Culture experience
• Good organizational, communication, and analytical skills
• Ability to provide input on strain engineering approaches and experiments
• Ability to operate effectively with a high degree of autonomy and personal accountability
