    Global Noncommunicable Diseases Initiative Internship New Seattle, Washington, United States, RTI Seattle Office Intern IDG VPO & Support Services 180R7 Requisition # Apply for Job Share this Job Sign Up for Job Alerts Internship Description RTI's Global NCDs team is committed to addressing the large and growing burden of NCDs (such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory disease) worldwide with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Our team works with countries, other research institutions, and multilateral organizations (such as the United Nations' World Health Organization) to achieve Sustainable Development Goal Target 3.4, which aims to reduce by one-third premature mortality from NCDs by 2030. We also generate new evidence to guide global and national decision-making to reduce the burden of NCDs, as well as provide experienced policy advice. The Global Noncommunicable Diseases Initiative Internship opportunity is ideal for students interested in research in the fields of global health, international development, health disparities, health economics, health communications, and/or global health policy. The intern may also gain experience in data analysis and application of epidemiological concepts as it relates to NCDs, the epidemiological transition in low- and middle-income, and cost-benefit analysis of public health programs in low- and middle-income countries. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Research on disease burden, policy, and health economics related to NCDs Literature reviews of current academic findings on NCD-related topics Data analysis using various tools including Excel, Global Burden of Disease, and WHO's One Health Tool, among others. Preparing summaries of research findings Writing for academic papers as well as for materials to communicate the burden of NCDs to a wide external audience Preparation of communications materials, including PowerPoints and briefing documents Background research for communications projects Participating in meetings with RTI staff, partners, and collaborators to discuss projects Assistance with other NCD projects as they arise Qualifications Strong academic background with an interest in global health, international health policy, health economics, or a related field Excellent writing skills, in both an academic style and for "lay person" communications to a broad external audience Previous experience in data analysis preferred Previous experience with literature reviews preferred Ability to juggle multiple projects and timelines efficiently Graduate student or highly-motivated junior or senior undergraduate student Students seeking academic credit preferred. Applications seeking a paid internship will be considered dependent on funding and application experience. Able to commit to at least 10 hours/week at RTI's Seattle office through March 2019 (with an option of extending hours and length of internship if preferred or needed for academic credit).
