This internship will provide the successful prospect a mentored learning experience, and opportunity to expand their financial perspective, understand government compliance, contract types, and project financial management skills. RTI's Internship Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences, providing students and recent degree recipients an opportunity to their academic knowledge and skills in a meaningful and practical way. Through this program, interns will become accustomed to RTI's open and educational culture, support RTI's mission to improve the human condition, and build upon career goals and grow. The selected intern will support the Social, Statistical, & Environment Scientist (SSES) research group. The SSES research group anticipates and addresses pressing health, social, educational and environmental needs around the globe by providing clients with evidence-based knowledge to make sound scientific and policy decisions. As part of the SSES finance team, the selected intern will provide financial support in the areas of project budgeting, forecasting, supporting process improvement initiatives and ad hoc financial analyses. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Partnering with assigned Financial Analyst mentor to support day to day financial needs of projects (e.g. forecasting, subcontractors, understanding contract requirements, engaging with research staff to provide financial guidance, participating in project reviews). Contributing to the financial needs of specific SSES projects through data entry into financial forecasting software, gathering data, running financial reports, preliminary interpretation of data and other ad hoc financial requests Collaborating and interacting with SSES Finance leaders and staff supporting process improvement initiatives. Completing special projects, as assigned. Special projects may be used to display accomplishments to RTI senior leaders and staff members, university representatives, and intern families at the Annual Internship Showcase. Additional Information This paid internship, located in our Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, office, will begin in May 2019 through August 2019 with the option that internship could continue part time through the academic year. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours (8:15 am-5:00 pm, Monday through Friday). Qualifications Rising Junior or Senior currently enrolled in a 4-year university, majoring in business, finance, economics or accounting. Has a positive, winning attitude. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (e.g., Adobe, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint/Prezi) and compiling multiple documents into a single, clearly formatted PDF volume. Related experience and interest in government contracting, financial analysis, project management, and/or risk assessment is preferred. Capacity to think critically, identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities from disparate sets of information and provide clear conclusions and guidance. Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative research methodologies. Understand the value of customer service and provide in an exemplary manner. Curious; someone who has a desire to learn and understand the business. Self-starter; works independently; takes initiative Possess the highest level of integrity and trust. Exceptional problem-solving skills, organization, and attention to detail. Capable of working independently, as well as with others on a team to help complete assignments in coordination with other members from the technical, contractual, financial and administrative units, as appropriate.
