Data Science Intern New - Durham, North Carolina, United States, RTI Headquarters (RTP Area) - Intern - SSES SCSS UVPO & Support Services - - 180FS - Internship Description The Center for Data Science at RTI International is seeking a Data Science Intern with an analytical mindset for solving problems with a growing team of RTI data scientists and domain experts on government, foundation, and commercial analytics projects as well as to build internal tools and capacity. Projects range across the domains of public health, social science, sample surveys, engineering, and the environment. Our goal is to solve problems and inform decision-making through innovation, collaboration, and technical expertise such as advanced analytics (machine learning, predictive modeling, text analytics, network analysis), software development, and interactive data visualization. RTI International is a nonprofit research organization of about 4200 people around the globe. Our three-and-a-half-year-old Center for Data Science (CDS) is offering a paid student internship for the 2018 summer months. Our work has ranged from public health to criminal and social justice to global health and education. In 3.5 years, we've grown from 5 to 20+ staff, worked on dozens of projects, presented our work at conferences, at Universities, to the federal government, to international governments, and at the White House. We've created open source tools and applications, become thought leaders in areas like data-driven justice, and appeared in local and national medial. Our data science interns have performed a range of data science activities (according to their skills and interests) on a variety of projects in public health, environment, and the social sciencesmodeling and analytics, data viz, database creation and data cleaning, creating web applications, and working with various sources of big data. In this position you will: - Contribute to independent projects focusing on the use of data and analytics to solve problems in education. - Work collaboratively with software engineers and data engineers to develop powerful predictive models. - Work with cloud-based ETL/data warehousing concepts as well as data science algorithms in signal processing, feature engineering, and model building. - Report data findings creatively to internal teams and externally to our partners. Additional Information This paid internship, located in our Research Triangle Park, NC office, will begin in June 2018 through August 2018.
