Responsibilities RTIs Innovation Advisors perform analyses and research to provide intelligence for a variety of client needs, from informing new product or market development efforts to identifying new manufacturing capabilities or practices. The IA team also provides research and analysis to identify commercialization opportunities for technologies that are developed by government laboratories and corporations. The intern will work alongside and receive mentorship by the Innovation Advisors and staff to conduct tasks related to market research and commercialization of new technologies that are often outside the scope of a candidates current study or experience. The intern will: Conduct research using secondary resources (published company information, SEC filings, scholarly journals, trade literature, and news articles), as well as primary resources (phone interviews) when needed Provide insightful analysis of opportunities identified during primary and secondary research Develop marketing descriptions of new technologies and conduct research in a wide range of technology areas and industries Understand business and legal issues related to commercialization of new technologies Apply general technical acumen and scientific skills to evaluate a variety of technologies Employ commercialization and innovation-related frameworks, such as the business model canvas and value proposition testing, to new technologies. Additional Information This opportunity is a paid fall semester internship located in our Research Triangle Park, NC office. The position requires up to 10-30 hours per week during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday). Qualifications The IA team is considering multiple intern hires for the fall. In addition to the general internship position, IA is specifically looking for individuals with experience in the healthcare sector, with a focus in medical devices, healthcare businesses and services. The team is also seeking individuals with a chemistry or biochemistry background who have applied their knowledge to food and agriculture applications. Qualifications include: Undergraduate or graduate students (including Master of Engineering Management Program (MEMP) students or MBA students) with a broad technical scientific background in engineering, science, or a related field with career interest in innovation, technology commercialization and consulting. Experience with the healthcare industry, or chemistry with applied food and agriculture experience a plus. Demonstrated comfort and willingness to regularly work outside the scope of the candidates technical field of study Motivated, hardworking student with a passion for technology commercialization and consulting Knowledge of or previous experience with product or process development, portfolio mapping/valuation, market research, technology evaluation and/or technology transfer is preferred Exceptional written and oral communication, time management, and analytical skills Detail-oriented and able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
