  • Responsibilities

    We are seeking an intern that can assist Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Life Sciences Solutions Group Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department in completing global safety related tasks.

    Major Responsibilities

    • Assist Global LSG EHS team with EHS program management support
    • EHS Training Plan: Schedule and track EHS webinar trainings
    • Remote Staff Safety Program: Assess, develop, and assign remote staff safety training
    • Revise and implement an LSG Safety Manual for remote staff
    • EHS Intranet Homepage: Maintain and improve the functionality of the EHS intranet homepage (e.g., Ergonomics Portal, Remote Staff Safety Page, Biosafety Page, Distribution Safety Page, and Business Continuity Page)
    • Achievement Program: Assist with the implementation of the LSG EHS Achievement Program. Assist with maintaining Achievement Program documentation and providing individual support on a site-by-site basis
    • Job Safety Analysis: Provide support in conducting, documenting, and training on job safety analyses
    • Safety, Health, and Environmental Database (SHED) System: Manage safety metrics and run reports
    • Business Continuity: Maintain and assist with developing Business Continuity policy and associated tools / resources.

  • Qualifications

    Skills/Knowledge

    • Background or major in science, business continuity or environmental, health and safety is a must
    • Preferred level of education is 3rd year undergraduate degree or above
    • Understanding of basic hazards with biotechnology industry would be helpful (e.g., biological, chemical, machinery)
    • Familiarity with basic data search principles and databases (e.g., OSHA and EPA regulatory databases)
    • Ability to follow instructions on data entry rules
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Access a plus
    • Must be comfortable working on a computer and navigating the internet
    • Experience with website creation and maintenance a plus.

    Special Work Areas:

    • 90% office work at a computer work station
    • Must also be able to walk around the Grand Island campus and enter manufacturing areas and laboratories
    • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses and lab coat) when entering labs and manufacturing areas
    • The ability to work part-time during the school year is preferred.
