    Intern - Nanoscale Sciences R&D Undergrad Year Round Sandia National Laboratories 160 reviews - Albuquerque, NM Full-time, Part-time, Temporary, Internship What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking an Intern Year Round - R&D Undergrad The Nanoscale Sciences Department is searching for a responsible, enthusiastic and conscientious undergraduate student intern researcher, with the ability and aptitude to learn and work safely in a team-oriented experimental materials research laboratory led by Nanoscale Science Department researchers. The successful candidate will be a student with serious interest in pursuing further college studies in chemistry, physics, materials science, or engineering; and have strong academic performance with the ability to be effectively mentored by more experienced researchers. The ideal candidate will have relevant science course experience and project relevant hands on experimental experience or aptitude commensurate with their education level. On any given day, you may be called on to: * Quickly adapt towards learning and reliably performing general laboratory support duties in one or more areas * Learn and assist with the synthesis of novel materials via physical or chemical processes as needed by the project * Learn and assist with testing material properties (i.e., x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, magnetic or electrical characterization, etc.) * Learn and assist with data collection, data analysis, computer/electronic interfacing, or computer modeling * Work effectively and responsibly in a research team and contribute towards a safe and secure laboratory working environment Qualifications We Require You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements: * Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program

    • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major * Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 * Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer * U.S. citizenship Additional Requirements: * Currently pursuing a major in Physics, Chemistry or Engineering relevant for project needs * Background and/or references that demonstrate good oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment * General knowledge and good understanding of a suite of standard computer software skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Qualifications We Desire * Cumulative GPA > 3.5/4.0 * Relevant science or engineering coursework, teaching or lab experiences relevant for project needs * Relevant experience with working in a materials research laboratory demonstrating relevant materials synthesis, characterization skills * Relevant experience in advanced computer interfacing, modeling or electronics About Our Team The Nanoscale Sciences Department conducts collaborative leading-edge research that advances the understanding of materials at the nanoscale and enables the collaborative development of creative solutions for Sandia's broad and evolving National Security and Energy Missions.
