    Job Description

    SEL is seeking a bright, dynamic individual to join our Trade Compliance Department as Trade Compliance Analyst. We are looking for someone with previous experience in import/export/customs clearance operations/regulations or previous role in trade compliance, who will provide support in the administration of a robust and effective trade compliance program.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Understand, interpret, and apply customs/import/export regulations to SEL’s business processes.

    2. Perform various activities in support of SEL’s imports/exports in accordance with regulatory requirements and with established protocols for internal governance.

    3. Evaluate transactions and documentation for issues impacting expeditious and compliant imports/exports and drive problem resolution.

    4. Furnish information or instructions needed by other SEL departments or by SEL’s third party providers.  

    5. Create, review, and approve commercial data elements and/or documentation as needed.

    6. Assist with assigning Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN’s).

    7. Research and apply various Rules of Origin.

    8. Maintain and update databases containing trade data elements.

    9. Conduct proper management and documentation of preferential trade or special treatment programs.

    10. Assist the Trade Compliance Manager with import/export recordkeeping, auditing, corrective actions, and other compliance controls in furtherance of SEL’s Trade Compliance Program.

    11. Interface and communicate internally and externally to ensure efficient support and adequate import/export control environment and infrastructure.

    12. Understand, Create, Simplify.

    13. Other duties and special projects as assigned.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Proven understanding of customs clearance, customs brokerage, and import/export processes; or previous role in trade compliance or in a related field.

    Ability to understand, interpret and apply regulatory requirements.

    Ability to quickly learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.

    Ability to learn new concepts and technical details of products.

    Demonstrated ability to communicate and work cooperatively in cross-functional teams.

    Self-motivated with the ability to simultaneously handle varying priorities.

    Strong data analysis, problem-solving and effective communications skills.

    Computer savvy with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and internet research.

    Ability to pass background check and drug test.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 3 years of related business experience.

    Previous experience in entry writing.

    Experience with classifying products under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and the Commerce Control List.

    Understanding of Customs Regulations (19 CFR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (15 CFR).

    Free Trade Agreements experience.

    LCB, CCS, CUSECO or similar certification, or successful completion of coursework in a related field.
