    POSITION PURPOSE: This position is an integrated role combining process and mechanical skills, experience to support day to day plant operations and performance vs operating goals, ensuring timely and effective response to plant issues including engaging with appropriate resources.

    The Engineer in this position will provide technical expertise and direct engagement in support of plant operations at the site. The role will be resident at the site and a key team member of the site team while also being integrated and part of the Acid Technology Center which provides support to all of the Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) sites.

    The Plant Engineer will lead safety, process, mechanical, and product quality improvements with emphasis on implementing systems to safely obtain consistent output of high quality products at a lower cost while achieving high reliability. The role is responsible for developing and implementing process improvement programs and best practices (safety, capacity, uptime, quality, yield, cost/capital, energy reduction, and waste minimization), as well as supporting Process Safety Management (PSM) and environmental compliance. The Plant Engineer will participate as a team member for design, implementation, startup and monitoring of new or improved processes in the existing production facility, including working with external customers, contractors, environmental, safety and other technical support. Networking and leveraging capabilities with sister facilities and resources as well as occasional support within the SES circuit is also the responsibility of this role.

    The role reports to the Process Effectiveness or Asset Effectiveness Director within the Acid Technology center.

    PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

    • Demonstrated strengths in getting results, meeting commitments, problem solving and continuous improvement directly and through others.
    • Documented leadership, implementation and development of process, mechanical and/ or capital improvements.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with or lead diverse teams with the capability to influence operators and mechanics, colleagues, site management and business leadership in support of improved business results through significant initiatives as well as complex process and mechanical improvement strategies.
    • Monitor and evaluate data using statistical methodology and use technical expertise to make appropriate recommendations for improvement.
    • Technical support for: improvement projects, day to day operations & maintenance, troubleshooting process & mechanical issues, capital projects and shutdowns.
    • Lead and implement various projects such as improvement, reliability, efficiency etc.
    • Experience working in a manufacturing environment including working in a chemical process environment; outdoors, indoors, elevated heights and confined spaces.
    • Site Process Safety Management resource.
    • Able to travel 50% of the time.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hardhat, protective eyewear, Nomex, acid suit etc.
    • Willing and able to climb stairs, ladders; stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl; visual acuity for close work; able to reach overhead; able to hear and respond to alarms.

    Education / Experience / Background

    • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering, chemical or mechanical engineering preferred (or equivalent)
    • 10 plus years of experience as an engineer in related fields with increased responsibility commensurate with level of demonstrated experience.

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    • Experience with Process Safety Management systems and high hazard chemical manufacturing.
    • Minimum 10 years relative experience working as process or mechanical capacities in similar chemical processes or in Operations or Maintenance Supervision.
