Mechanical Engineering Intern - Level I Job Requisition #: 3386 Classification Title: Casual - Nonexempt Grade: NA Location: Menlo Park, CA (HQ) # of openings: 1 Description SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, a multipurpose laboratory for astrophysics, photon science, accelerator and particle physics research, has an employment opportunity available for an undergraduate mechanical engineering student who in supporting accelerator science and seeking to gain work experience. Reporting to the AD METSD Mechanical Engineering Department Head, the intern will be part of a design team developing accelerator components and systems under direct supervision of a senior staff engineer. He/she will assist the engineering staff with mechanical designs and provide hands-on support for test system setup. A primary responsibility will be assisting to produce design documentation, including the preparation of fabrication drawings. Note: This is a year-round, non-benefits eligible casual-nonexempt position (work less than 50% full-time equivalent), not to exceed 980 hours in a calendar year. Work schedule is flexible, but a minimum of 10 hours per week onsite is expected during each academic term with full time employment expected during summer/winter academic breaks. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years of age, currently enrolled in a Bay Area undergraduate educational program, and have US work authorization. Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to complete assignments in a fast-paced and collaborative work environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Basic skill with CAD tools (SolidEdge is used at SLAC) and demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office suit SLAC Competencies: Effective Decisions: Uses job knowledge and solid judgment to make quality decisions in a timely manner.
