Staff Engineer 2 [Experimental Systems Support] Job Requisition #: 3312 Classification Title: Staff Engineer 2 Grade: K Location: Menlo Park, CA (HQ) # of openings: 1 Description POSITION OVERVIEW : The Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource seeks a Staff Engineer to join the soft x-ray group in the Material Science Division. The soft x-ray group operate and support a suite of four beamlines with six end stations in the VUV to soft x-ray regime, serving the user communities in a variety of soft x-ray sciences. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide engineering and technical support to the instrument development on the end stations of soft x-ray beamlines, as well as to assist staff scientists with general user support when needed. The specific responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Design, modify, repair, and troubleshoot complex equipment and experimental systems. Develop in vacuum sample environment for specialized experiments. Design and construction of new experimental chambers and components. Improve the sample loading and sample transfer mechanism for efficiency. Automate the data acquisition on the experimental end station. * - Other duties may also be assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience : Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics or other closely related field and minimum 2 years of experience with the design and operation of complex scientific instrumentation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge about x-ray techniques and experience with ultrahigh vacuum system. Experience in instrumentation development, including design, commission, operation and maintenance of complex experimental system. Experience in mechanical design using CAD software such as SolidEdge or SolidWorks. Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task and complete assignments. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
