Sr Intern Capillary Electrophoresis R&D Intern
Master's degree-senior intern
Thermo Fisher is seeking a summer 2021 intern for the Capillary Electrophoresis R&D group to work on the development of new electrophoretic methods for concentrating DNA samples prior to gel-based capillary electrophoresis separation. The capability to concentrate DNA samples either before or during electrophoresis can increase detection sensitivity which is important for applications where low amounts of DNA are present such as human identification in forensic DNA analysis and genetic analysis of human samples to diagnose disease.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and optimizing electrophoretic DNA concentration methods using software that can simulate non-linear processes in electrokinetics. Results from simulations will be tested and verified using DNA samples run on Applied Biosystems Genetic Analyzers.
The intern will gain experience in DNA electrophoresis separations and applications, and in the use of modeling software to simulate different experimental conditions. Physics, engineering, biology or chemistry masters degree candidates with an interest in numerical simulation of real-word problems should consider applying. The intern will be mentored on laboratory techniques and experimental design in an industry setting.
