    Job Description

    The Stratas Foods Environmental Manager has the overall responsibility for developing, planning, implementing and enforcing the environmental policies for Stratas Foods. This position reports directly to the Vice-President of Operations. This person will also communicate with the Stratas Foods leadership team for all Environmental related matters.

    Ensures all plants are in full compliance with all corporate, city, county, state and federal government Environmental laws and regulations.

    Primary Responsibilities of Environmental Manager:

    1. Support and guide approximately 8 locations facility managers and HSE professionals in their environmental efforts. Level of support provided will vary from location to location and will dependent on location operations, staffing, and complexity of compliance requirements.

    2. Effective implementation of standardized Stratas environmental programs and systems to ensure compliance with company and local requirements for their assigned locations.

    3. Establish a sustainable environment improvement culture across the locations in their area based on continuous improvement through the environmental management system. This role will provide technical and managerial direction to ensure Stratas’ environmental objectives and met.

    4. Monitor, evaluate and report area environmental performance and suggest corrective/preventative actions to further improve performance.

    5. Provide environmental support to locations within the area for approvals, permits, root cause analyses, sharing best practices, implementing the Stratas standards and negotiations with authorities.

    6. Participate in trade associations and government working groups.

    7. Track and advise colleagues on new or upcoming legislation and regulations.

    8. Participate in compliance audits and assessments including due diligence.

    9. Facilitate training and development of the EHS professionals.

    10. Willingness to travel to multiple locations (25 – 30%) with flexible hours, occasionally other than normal business hours to accommodate plant needs; i.e. training, inspections, etc. Available after hours.

    11. Follow-up and assist with the development and completion of action items related to Notices of Violation (NOV), deviations, incidents and reportable releases/spills.

    12. Follow-up with locations to ensure that entries into the investigation database are completed correctly and include required elements per EMS.

    13. Follow-up with locations and provide assistance to ensure that investigations are conducted in accordance with the EMS.

    14. Provide assistance regarding overdue GEMINI tasks and work with sites to achieve goals for on-time completion percentage.

    15. Provide assistance to locations to ensure that business rules are followed regarding use of GEMINI (e.g., the correct creation of GEMINI tasks with Task Groups, ensure tasks are created for each site’s applicable regulatory requirements

    16. Follow-up with locations to ensure utilization of the GEMINI media modules is occurring at the site and provide assistance, as needed, with the use of the GEMINI media modules as applicable

    17. Ensure utilization of the Environmental Records Library (ERL) is occurring and provide assistance, as needed, regarding use of ERL at the locations.

    18. Follow-up with locations and provide assistance regarding EMS activities at sites to ensure that locations have an active and functioning EMS.

    19. Follow-up with locations after spills to provide support, assistance and review incident submittals to ensure that appropriate regulatory reporting and follow up correspondence has been completed.

    20. Stay current on regulatory updates and impacts in states/municipalities where sites are located.

    21. Conduct environmental meetings every other month to review the compliance and EMS status of the site and record minutes.

    22. Report to site and senior leadership on the status and results of Agency inspections for designated locations. Communicate to site and senior leadership regarding the compliance and EMS status of the sites and identify when sites need additional assistance or resources.

    23. Work with locations to prepare and finalize non-routine Agency submittals. Coordinate activities when review is needed by site or senior leadership.

    Qualifications

    Education: BA or BS in Engineering, Environmental Management or other related program is preferred. Bi-lingual communication skills (Spanish and English) is preferred.

    Related Experience: 1+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a process food industrial environment. Air, waste, and water permitting and associated matters. Waste disposal alternatives and beneficial reuse. Performance Excellence/Lean/Continuous Improvement. Experience with Environmental legislation in geographic area of responsibility.

    Skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office. Experience with Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

    Additional Information

    Physical: The Environmental Manager position requires the ability to work in a variety of conditions such as an office environment, indoors/outdoors, hot/cold weather as well as physical demands such as standing, kneeling, and sitting for prolonged periods of time, climbing stairs/ladders and the ability to work in confined spaces in a variety of environmental conditions.

    Sensory: Must have the appropriate level of sensory acuity (visual, hearing, speaking, smell and touch) to be able to identify and react to normal, abnormal and alarm conditions (chemicals, temperature, etc.)

    Mental/Reasoning: Must be able to logically and methodically work through and break down complex problems and processes to enable effective communication with all levels of the organization.
