Surface Chemistry R&D Intern
The sensor technology group internship position provides an opportunity for a chemistry, biology, or materials science/engineering student to get hands on experience working to develop new NGS technologies in a fast-paced R & D environment. The sensor team intern will contribute to development projects and advance best design practices. The position starts in May or June, paid working 40 hours per week through August or September.
The intern will join the Surface Chemistry R&D group. As part of this group, he/she will use the latest techniques to functionalize the surface of chips for the Ion Torrent NGS sequencing platforms with polymer and monolayer films to improve chip performance. Part of the project will also include developing methods for quantifying the amount of templating within these films. The applicant should be skilled in the use of the latest techniques for deposition of polymer and monolayer films, thin film and polymer characterization, optical and fluorescence microscopy, bio-functionalization of films, instrument scripting and common molecular biology procedures for DNA (PCR, hybridization, etc.). Activities will include production and characterization of samples, surface chemistry, templating, sequencing, instrument scripting and data analysis.
