    ABOUT LORD FAIRFAX COMMUNITY COLLEGE

    Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) is a comprehensive, nonresidential, two-year public institution of higher education with 4 locations-the Fauquier and Middletown Campuses, the Luray-Page County Center and the Vint Hill Site and outreach sites throughout the College's service region. The service region includes the counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren and the city of Winchester.

    LFCC offers more than 75 associate degree and certificate programs in a wide variety of disciplines, in addition to workforce preparation programs for employees and employers. LFCC offers a variety of day, evening, weekend and distance learning classes. As one of the fastest growing community colleges of the Virginia Community Colleges, LFCC serves over 9,100 unduplicated credit students and approximately 1,200 employers with business and professional development through Workforce Solutions. In terms of student enrollment, LFCC is the seventh largest of the 23 colleges of the Virginia Community Colleges.

    LFCC is embarking on the celebration of our 50 Years of Impact.  In the fall of 1970, LFCC first opened its doors at the Middletown Campus to begin classes with 577 students.  Beginning, January 2020, LFCC will celebrate 50 years of cultivating educational opportunity and economic vitality within or community.  We look forward to reflecting on our past, celebrating the present and moving forward with a renewed dedication to our community and student achievement.  

    Fiscal year 2020 was one of the strongest years for higher education in state budget recent history.  There were no increases to tuition or fees for students, $4 million statewide increase to training grants, compensation increases for employees and health premiums remained unchanged.  LFCC ranks 8 out of Virginia’s 23 Community Colleges in the amount of performance based funding received. 

    LFCC continues to prepare for the future; our facilities and campus improvement projects include new construction of the Luray Page County Center in Luray, VA as well as the anticipated Hazel Hall Building at our Fauquier Campus in Warrenton, VA. 

    FACILITIES DIRECTOR

    Directs Facilities Operations and future planning and development of all College facilities, which include multiple locations at two campuses and two centers in a 7-county area in Virginia. Establishes procedures for maintenance, repair and/or replacement of College facilities, grounds, and plant systems equipment. Directs the planning and administration of building fire and safety programs related to building maintenance, construction, and repair, including compliance with federal and state laws, establishment and maintenance of policies and procedures, including emergency responses and continuity of operations for Facilities and the departments reporting to the Facilities Director. Oversees the maintenance, operations, and custodial upkeep of all buildings and grounds and plant operations.  Assists in the planning, management, and submission of new capital requests and maintenance reserve projects in conformance with the College Master plan.  Assists with the supervision of all construction projects through completion and occupancy of the facility.

    Directs all programs of capital planning, safety, buildings and plant maintenance and repair, custodial services, grounds maintenance, skilled trade services, renovation projects, new construction, and related contract administration. Provides technical advice and assistance to college officials concerning safety and engineering matters. Ensures compliance with building code requirements and other State/federal agency requirements for facilities operations. Supervises college-wide building and grounds (B&G) operations, ensuring that day-to-day B&G, total productive maintenance, and new initiatives are planned for and executed in a timely manner in compliance with state/federal requirements. Reports to and receives general direction from the Vice-President of Finance & Administration.

    Required Skills

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Extensive knowledge of facilities management planning, building construction, renovation, building maintenance, and grounds maintenance.
    • Considerable knowledge of building safety, ADA compliance and utility usage/management.  
    • Demonstrate the ability to develop long-range goals and objectives to provide status reports and or presentations. 
    • Demonstrated ability to plan, direct and manage a multi-location operations, such as multiple campuses in a college setting, College-wide program of facility planning and development; supervise and direct the work of technical and B&G staff; and coordinates and communicates among other college departments/organizational units.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities; schedule work based on funds available, and to utilize an automated maintenance request system.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; and to operate a personal computer using current Microsoft software packages.

    PREFERRED SKILLS:

    • Knowledge of state budget management and state procurement processes.
    • Knowledge of state/federal code and regulations as related to fire code and building safety. 
    • Demonstrated ability to serve as an advisor to executive staff regarding construction and maintenance operations.

    Required Experience

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and/or experience; military experience and training in related areas equally considered.
    • Knowledge and experience in one or more building trades.
    • Experience in planning, developing and maintaining a large, complex program of facilities maintenance, construction, and building safety.
    • Understanding of applicable laws, risk management, security procedure, policy, and protocol necessary to inform an immediate and correct response to building emergency situations.
    • Valid driver’s license required.

     

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    • Concentration of education and/or experience in building construction, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
    • Experience at the journeyman level preferred.
    • Trades and Contractor licenses desired.
    • Experience in the supervision of large technical and B&G workforce is preferred.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    The compensation for the position will commensurate with education and experience; however, the minimum of the pay band for the position is $70,887 per year.  The position is a classified staff role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System.  For more information, please visit www.dhrm.virginia.gov and www.vccs.edu.
