Summary of Internship

The Technical Writer position provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing a graphic design/instructional design/technical writing degree to get hands on experience working with an innovative documentation team in a fast-paced software design and software quality assurance environment. The position starts in June, paid working 40 hours per week through August. Opportunity exists for this position to continue through the academic year on a part-time basis to allow for class schedules.

Essential Functions:

• Work with Senior Writers to develop video walk-throughs and tutorials for user documentation and the online help as well as technical illustrations for technical manuals, interactive documents, and training materials
• Perform user task analysis and provide that feedback to Senior Writer
• Support a variety of technical documentation activities and may be assigned to a variety of documentation tasks throughout the department
• Specific tasks will be tailored to the software interns experience level and abilities
• A technical writer/graphic designer intern works under the close supervision of engineers, project managers, and technical publications managers

• Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
• Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
• Desire to contribute and improve design of new and existing scientific instrumentation products
• Exceptional customer focus
• Desire to teach other engineers about technology in area of expertise
• Familiarity with of least graphic design/multimedia set

Qualifications:

• Student currently enrolled in classes leading to a ABET accredited degree in a graphic design or computer related engineering discipline
• Bachelor's Degree in Technical Writing, Computer Science, Information Sciences, UX, Industrial Design, Instructional Design
• General chemistry or greater science knowledge preferred
