       GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Front-End Developer works on the Communications & Marketing Team within the Office of External Affairs. The role operates under the direction of the Director of Digital Strategy and alongside a team of front- and back-end developers and is responsible for the development and maintenance of websites and web applications managed by the Office.     SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Working closely with the Director of Digital Strategy and the Team's lead developer, the Front-End Developer will:
    • Collaborate with internal clients from throughout the School:
    • Designing, building and deploying custom content and components
    • Providing UI/UX guidance and expertise
    • Offering general support and troubleshooting
    • Working from wireframes, comps or prototypes, develop and deploy components, pages, templates or sites
    • Will occasionally hand code complex HTML and CSS
    • Build HTML emails for internal and external audiences
    • Perform admin functions on internal and external servers and services
    • Work with outside vendors to facilitate additional development
    • Ensure quality and adherence to School and University brand guidelines

               MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's Degree in related field
    • At least two years of professional, related work experience
    • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional relevant experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

        PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
    • Comfortable with CSS languages and methodologies such as SASS, BEM, or SMACSS
    • Basic understanding of JS based build tools like Grunt and Gulp
    • Working knowledge of Git and GitHub
    • Working knowledge of Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator or similar applications
    • An aptitude for visual communication and graphic design
    • Proficiency with mobile-first, progressive enhancement approaches
    • Familiar with WCAG 2.0 Level AA guidelines and approaches
    • Experience developing modern CMS implementations is preferred
    • Experience with JavaScript creating interactive components a plus
    • Working knowledge of back-end tools such ColdFusion, PHP, and SQL a plus
