    Center for Conservation Agriculture Internship in Conservation Agro-­ecosystems The Intern will work on several research projects in the Laboratory of Conservation Agro-­ecosystems of the Dead Sea & Arava Science Center, under the supervision of Dr. Ilan Stavi. Qualifications Some background in soil science / agriculture / environmental studies / physical geography or related field Strong organizational and time management skills Computer proficient (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Pleasant and personable, hardworking, efficient, able to work under pressure and for long hours. Willing to take on major responsibilities. Mandatory English fluency. Position Description Monitoring biochar production in the laboratory of Conservation Agro-­ecosystems of the Dead Sea & Arava Science Center. Physical and chemical testing of biochar. Managing field and greenhouse experiments in the Southern Arava R&D, as well as in other locations throughout Israel. Running soil tests in the laboratory of Conservation Agro-­ecosystems. Field plots establishment, preparation, and management. Soil and crop sampling. Physical and chemical testing of soil samples. Data analysis and summarizing. Optional: writing grant proposals and research papers. ------------ Conditions of Internship: The Institute will provide living arrangements including food, housing, health insurance and laundry services at the AIES campus. The intern may be placed in a room with another Institute intern or with an AIES student, living on the AIES campus. This is a self-­funded position covering room, board, and program participation. The cost is $1500 per month. The Institute will reimburse the intern for all expenses incurred due to job requirements including the use of a personal cell phone and travel expenses. The intern must own a laptop and have a cell phone. The intern will be allowed to attend special guest lectures and participate in field trips and campus life activities. An intern may be asked to help other interns or give assistance to other departments or staff as part of the Arava Institute staff team. The intern will be expected to participate in general staff meetings and certain staff activities The intern may be asked to be a teaching assistant for one of the AIES courses. The intern will be required to participate in staff office maintenance rotation. ------------
