    Position Purpose:

    This position will be responsible for the day to day operation and repair of pumps, motors, treatment equipment, controls, and SCADA equipment. The Water Treatment Operator (WTO) works with the Chief Operator, or independently, as the need arises. Maintain water production and quality for public consumption. Ensures pumping combinations are conducted in the most economical manner. Regulates system pressure, monitors booster stations and storage facilities, and observes treatment conditions. The WTO shares the responsibility of maintaining production data and chemical usage logs with the Chief Operator. The WTO is responsible for the collection and tabulation of monthly data, including creating and modifying Excel files and E OPS which calculate system data.

    Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Check treatment plant operation at frequent intervals to determine that all equipment is operating properly.
    • Make operational corrections.
    • Maintain a supply of chemicals in the chemical day tanks and checks on proper feeding.
    • Read meters, and maintain records on pumping, chemicals used, tank levels.
    • Perform chemical tests at specified intervals and records results.
    • Perform chemical tests at specified intervals and records results.
    • Oversee chemical deliveries.
    • Clean, adjust and maintains treatment plant equipment.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
    • Backwash filters and adjusts flow rates when necessary.
    • Ability to work overtime as needed.
    • Comply with all organization safety procedures.
    • Ability to work overtime if necessary.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience/Background:

    • High School Diploma/GED.
    • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
    • Three (3) years experience in Operations.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Computer skills: MS Office Suite – Excel/Word/Outlook preferred.
    • Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations, practices, procedures and water quality monitoring practices.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to relate and interface with management and co workers.
    • Must be able to work on call duties as needed.
    • Basic knowledge of pumps, motors, hydraulic systems, and other pumping equipment and skill in their operation.
    • Experience in a laboratory setting.
    • Mechanical ability, accuracy, thoroughness, carefulness and good judgement, and ability to work well: alone or with others.
    • Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions).
    • Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
    • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.

    Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

    • Minimum Grade 2 MA State Water Treatment Certification (T2).

    Physical Requirements:

    • Physical: Ability to sit for extended periods of time viewing computer and analyzing reports. Ability to work outside and in pumping facilities.
    • Sensory: Ability to think and reason soundly.
    • Mental: Ability to read, write, analyze reports, reason, and articulate.
    • Other: Must be flexible and be able to prioritize.
    • Ability to physically move or carry 50lbs.
