  • Responsibilities

    The Hardware Engineer Co-op will perform one or more of the following tasks while working on Acacia's world class optical communication products. The Hardware Engineering Co-op will be assigned relevant work assignments to challenge them according to their current level of experience and capability. The Hardware Engineering Co-op may find themselves working in the following areas:

    • Hardware Device Verification Testing (DVT) of products.

    • Hand-on debug of problems in the lab

    • Board/system bring up and debug

    • Assist in creating Hardware ECOs

    • Schematic updates to existing products

    • Simulation of circuitry

    • Component 2nd source qualification

    • General Hardware Engineering and Lab support

    • Hands on experience with state-of-the-art fiber optic telecommunication systems

    • Scripting for HW data acquisition during product testing

  • Qualifications

    • Previous hardware engineering internship experience

    • Currently enrolled in a Bachelors (completed 3rd year) or Master's degree (preferred) majoring in Electrical Engineering

    • Course work emphasis on Analog Design (Op Amps, FETs, ADCs, DACs, etc.)

    • Understanding of power supply technologies (Linear, switching, boost, buck, multi-phase, etc.)

    • Understanding of modern high-speed telecom hardware interfaces (SerDes, differential signaling, etc.)

    • Understanding of I2C, SPI, and other control busses

    • Understanding of modern hardware building blocks (FPGAs, EEPROMs, CPUs, RAM, Ethernet Controllers, etc.)

    • Passion about Hardware engineering

    • Good interpersonal and organizational skills

    • Minimum GPA of 3.6

  • Desired skills

    • Spice simulation of circuits

    • Demonstrated Lab experience in instrumentation, analog circuits, power supplies, etc.

    • Working knowledge of Spectrum analyzers, high-speed scopes, other lab equipment, etc.

    • Knowledge of C or Python™

    • Enjoys working in lab environments

    • Likes to be challenged and work with difficult problems

    • Previous internship experience

    • Local candidates preferred
