ConsenSys is a venture production studio focused on building and scaling tools and enterprise software products powered by Ethereum. Our mission is to use these solutions to power the emerging economic, social, and political operating systems of the planet. Our teams are busy at work building the future of identity, financial markets, commerce, the music industry, security and infrastructure, and more.
As a ConsenSys intern you will be embedded with one of our teams and receive 1-to-1 mentorship while making real contributions towards building the Internet of tomorrow.
This paid summer internship is on the MetaMask team.
About MetaMask:
- MetaMask has become an integral account manager and the de-facto platform for developing web interfaces for services built on Ethereum smart contracts. With 1.3 million installs and hundreds of thousands of active users, we are the most used dapp browser in Ethereum. We take our market position seriously and continue to push forward user accessibility and security.
- We have initiatives in a variety of fields, such as development on our browser extension in Javascript, our up-and-coming mobile platform in React Native, design work, research into light clients and networking as the Mustekala project, experiments such as app keys, and the never-ending process of ecosystem research.
- Interns are empowered to pursue whatever role on the team they would find the most benefit from; we actively curate our internship program during the first few weeks to facilitate this fit. As an intern, you will be treated like a full member on the team and will immediately work on meaningful projects that will be integrated into production code or facilitate it meaningfully. Interns in the past have pushed code onto our mobile and extension platforms, worked on design research, and developed their own auxiliary applications. We do demand strong autonomy and curiosity from our interns, but in return we open our doors for any questions and are open to feedback and improvement; just because an intern is less experienced, does not mean their opinion is not valid.
- As a flat organization, other than your mentor, there will be no one to directly answer to but the team as a whole. While we will do our best to help guide you in the right direction, communication is key and the best interns for MetaMask will be pinging us on Slack. Constantly. We don’t have many hard requirements, but we do wish to see what we see in every team member here: a passion for blockchain beyond monetization and a humility and drive to improve, with the confidence to do so.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Actively seek out opportunities for growth and learning without reliance on preset schedules (learn more about some of the areas for growth in the MetaMask section above)
- Regular communication with your decided sub-team to determine the best place you can contribute.
- Critically observe our practices and direction and engage in constructive discussion as to why, how, and should.
Here are some of the perks of being part of a unique organization like ConsenSys:
- The forefront of a revolution. At ConsenSys we fundamentally believe that the next generation of technologies presents the opportunity to create a more just and equitable society.
- A dynamic startup environment. ConsenSys is a thought leader in the blockchain space and we are absorbing a significant portion of the mindshare. This is both exciting and challenging, as we learn to scale our organization while adhering to the principles of decentralization.
- Continuous learning. You'll be constantly exposed to new languages, frameworks, and ideas from your peers and as you work on different projects -- challenging you to stay at the top of your game.
- Deep technical challenges. This entire ecosystem is about 10 years old. Ethereum itself is still a toddler. There is much work to be done before these platforms can scale to the order of millions or billions of users. ConsenSys is building the technology platforms that can get us to those next thresholds of scale.
Past ConsenSys interns across the company have:
- Contributed theoretical research to the Ethereum Foundation
- Published among the earliest decompositions of the DAO hack
- Helped INFURA scale to serve more than 40 million request per day
- Contributed code to uPort, Boardroom, Weifund, the Proof-of-Physical-Address project and the original Ujo Music prototype—one of the most heavily transacted-with smart contracts in the first six months of the Ethereum mainnet.
