About the team:

The SAP Concur Business Intelligence & Analytics team is looking for a highly motivated, self-starter to join the team for a 10-week internship based in Bellevue, WA. In this role, you will support the data management efforts of the team with a special focus on Data Quality and Alignment.

As a global leader in Travel and Expense, our product and sales data knows no bounds. It has grown exponentially specifically in the last few years. With such growth, it becomes critical to utilize this data for strategic and operational decision making. As this is done, the company has stumbled across challenges around data definitions, lineage, exception management and data quality control.

You will be working in a newly established function of the BI & Analytics team. So, being enterprising and laser focused on execution is critical for this role. This internship will provide you an opportunity to work with stakeholders across multiple functions like product analytics, sales operations, marketing, implementation etc. There will also be avenues to work with senior leadership as the project gains momentum.  

What you’ll do

Position Title: SAP Concur iXp Intern – Data Management

Location: Bellevue, WA

Expected start date to end date: June 2020 -August 2020

In this role, you’ll:

• Evaluate different data catalog tools available in the market and provide recommendations given the organization’s needs
• Build personas for catalog usage in order to identify the right use-cases
• Prioritize, analyze and shortlist the identified use-cases to then work with a data catalog vendor
• Work closely with the catalog vendor to develop a protype that serves the project goals while also providing an opportunity to better understand the tool’s long-term benefits
• Develop a deep understanding of the data set planned to be used for the prototype
• Understand the implementation of the tool, conduct testing, identify bugs and get resolution successfully
• Capture findings, lessons learnt and recommendations
• Document the primary data quality and alignment challenges across the organization as experienced or/and noticed by you. Provide recommendations outside of the tool too
• Support other data quality and alignment efforts as time permits

Who you are:

We’re looking for someone who takes initiative, perseveres, and stays curious. You like to work on meaningful innovative projects and are energized by lifelong learning.

• Previous internship experience, coursework or any other work experience in analytics, BI, data or information systems field preferred
• Experience working on a data catalog tool preferred
• Intermediate understanding of data governance and tools needed at the time of starting the internship
• Problem solving and strong analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Candidates must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in business, information systems, data or a related field
