ABOUT THE TEAM

The SAP Innovation Center at Newport Beach, California is looking for a highly motivated data science intern to join the team for an internship. This is a remote position for pacific time zone. In case the situation permits, office visits in Newport Beach, CA will be possible. In this role, you will be able to work on concrete data science projects and experiments involving machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing.

The SAP Innovation Center is a global and diverse team with locations around the world. You will get the opportunity to build and contribute to solutions that future-proof SAP.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Position title: SAP Innovation Center iXp Intern – Data Scientist

Location: Newport Beach, CA – please note that roles will be remote until local guidelines ensure safe office reopenings

Expected start date: June 7, 2021 (flexible). Internship will be for 6 months duration

IN THIS ROLE, YOU’LL:

• Work though the end-to-end data science lifecycle including problem formulation, data exporation, data cleaning, model building, cross validation, and hypothesis testing.
• Work with state-of-the-art AI models, particularly in natural language processing, and leverage them to solve concrete data science problems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the solution you design solves the problem.
• Gain first hand experience on dealing with real world data.
• Potentially advance the state-of-the-art and, if successful, produce an academic paper to be submitted to a conference (depends on project).

ADDITIONAL LOCATIONS: Virtual - USA

We’re looking for someone who takes initiative, perseveres, and stay curious. You like to work on meaningful innovative projects and are energized by lifelong learning.

• Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with ML libraries such as Numpy, Pandas, Sci-kit Learn, Tensorflow, Pytorch, etc.
• Understanding of machine learning fundamentals such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning, classification, and regression.
• Mathematical foundations in statistics and probability, optimization algorithms, and linear algebra.
• Currently enrolled in a master’s degree program which is applicable to the position (computer science, data science, or equivalent proven experience)
• Strong communication skills that include the ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
• Preferred: some exposure to deep learning and/or natural language processing.
