  • Responsibilities

    We’re looking for a Machine Learning Intern who can independently explore the application of various machine learning techniques for Philips Hue. Such applications can range from product features to recommenders to back-end/offline enabling services to cross functional decision making models.

    Detailed responsibilities include:

    • Assessing how/if a given problem can be addressed using advanced data analytics and/or various machine learning techniques
    • Finding linear models from the literature/market places or building ones from scratch in order to act as a baseline for further improvement using more advanced analytics and machine learning methods
    • Identifying what kind of data in which format should be collected in order to solve the problem
    • Identifying which advanced data analytics or machine learning technique, such as reinforced learning or deep learning, is more suitable for the problem
    • Cleaning & structuring the data and building training & validation data sets
    • Training models and showing that they can perform better than the baseline
    • Implementation from early exploration to production
    • Setting up development and test environments for advanced analytics and machine learning projects
    • Document project work and processes
    • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Qualifications
    • Actively pursuing an advanced degree (PhD or MSs) in data science, computer science or computer engineering
    • Extensive programming experience in Python and Java. Additional experience with R & C++ is a plus.
    • Familiar with various machine learning techniques and machine learning libraries
    • Strong preference for programming experience in Spark framework and PySpark.
    • Strong preference for hands-on experience with TensorFlow or similar frameworks
    • Experience with (machine learning for) audio and video analysis/processing is a plus
    • Experience in querying complex schemas and relational databases
    • Experience with at least one highly available data store (SQL, Hadoop, MySQL, etc.)
    • Experience using Public Cloud (Google Cloud/AWS) is a plus
    • Basic knowledge on RESTful APIs
    • Results oriented and has a high degree of accountability, commitment and responsibility
    • Good communication skills
    • Flexibility in working across challenging time zones, especially with Europe (+9 hours)
    • Able to work in a dynamic environment with changing requirements
    • Takes initiative to identify & report problems and to drive resolution
    • Good level of English language skills, both spoken and written
