    Your challenge

    The Test and Compliance Engineer for Engineering Labs supports the Research and Development department by planning and performing design validation and approbation tests on a wide range of products, as well as by managing the listing of both new products and variants of existing products to regulatory agencies.

    Your responsibilities

    • Participate in new product development core teams and coordinate the formulation of design validation and approbations test plans.
    • Perform tests including, but not limited to, thermal, rain, photometric, and vibration tests (tests in the DAP/Satellite testing scope performed per cUL, UL and IEC standards).
    • Keep appraised of and follow ISO17025 guidelines for testing labs.
    • Act as consultant in new product development teams in all aspects related to testing and regulatory approbation.
    • Own projects for regulatory listing of new products and variants of existing products.
    • Maintain calibration and records of all monitoring devices and measurement tools in the engineering lab areas.
    • Provide Laboratory Tech. support to Quality Control, Manufacturing, Field Service, Applications, Sales and Engineering, as needed.
    • Apply superior ability to draw logical conclusions and support via concise documentation.
    • Generate detailed and accurate documentation relating to all test reports and results.
    • Maintain lab, ensure a professional appearance and compliance with safety requirements.
    • Utilize knowledge of working safely with electricity to perform a variety of tests and experiments.
    • Apply above average mechanical ability to set up experiments involving lighting products & components.
    • May provide guidance and some supervision to Engineering Laboratory Technician employees and junior Test and Compliance engineers.
  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, BSEE or BSME highly desired
    • Experience in testing, validation, verification (ideally in an Engineering Test Lab environment which follows ISO 17025 guidelines)
    • Experience working on listing products with Certifying Bodies (e.g., UL, Intertek, CSA, TUV, DLC, etc.), highly desired.
    • Capable of reading detailed drawings and schematics
    • Skilled in the use of hand tools, precision measuring/monitoring devices and precision electrical monitoring devices
    • Able to read gauges and meters.
    • Experience with SSL (Solid State Lighting) preferred
    • Strong MS Office skills: Excel and Word
    • Experience with LabView and Visual Basic highly desired
    • Able to apply basic math skills and logical thinking to daily responsibilities
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Able to work in a team environment
    • Detail oriented and organizational skills
    • Safety conscious; strong experience and knowledge of safely working with electricity (sometimes higher voltage)
    • Can lift test samples weighing up to 50 lbs.
