    OVERVIEW

Southern Glazer’s Operations and Supply Chain function involves management of the physical flow of our products from the original point of manufacturing to the final point of purchase at the retailer. Our structured internship program is designed to expose students to the wine and spirits beverage distribution system and the role Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) plays within our business. Students will finish the internship having expanded their knowledge regarding Supply Chain and Operations functions, and more specifically EHS.

Under the mentorship of the VP of EHS, the EHS intern will undertake projects directed at specific topics such as equipment safety, fall protection, occupational ergonomics, powered industrial trucks, environmental compliance, sustainability, and training education. This position is responsible for supporting projects, processes, and programs for EHS, located predominantly in Chicago, Illinois. We seek to attract talented individuals who possess the skills we need to become an industry leader.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Working with Corporate EHS and DOT team members to assist in day-to-day activities of the department to ensure a safe, healthful, and incident-free work environment.

    • Working closely with the Corporate EHS and DOT team to set safety standards and make recommendations on related national safety programs for the company.

    • Reviewing DOT operations data and roadside inspection results for compliance with state and federal regulations.

    • Assisting DOT leadership with DOT roadside inspection analysis to ensure corrective actions, FMCSA mandated SMC applications, and regulatory retention requirements.

    • Attending meetings with third-party compliance providers to support field operations and identify DOT risk across a nationwide transportation network.

    • Helping ensure compliance with all state, federal and local governmental safety, health, and environmental regulations.

    • Creating and reviewing spreadsheets, reports, messages, presentations, statements, or other related documentation.

    • Perform data entry and general system administration.

    • Supporting local teams ranging from production to engineering to provide EHS support to day-to-day operations, conduct safety walkthroughs and audits, deliver safety trainings to employees, participate in investigations of workplace incidents, and help drive corrective actions.

    • Other administrative duties and special projects as assigned.

    • This internship is a wonderful opportunity to learn about EHS and obtain hands-on field experience. It can also be used to satisfy graduate-level practicum and entry-level experience requirements. Placement would start in late May and end early in August of 2023. There is potential for the intern to be offered employment at SGWS depending on job availability and the student’s success in demonstrating their capability in this field.
