Background & Purpose of the Job

As the skin care fragrance team, our mission is to elevate consumers’ experiences, and enhance brand loyalty, by delivering delightful fragrances to our consumers. We are also responsible for managing complexity as well regulatory compliance across all markets. The creation of this role will enable the team’s capacity to grow exponentially to absorb the ever increasing C4G workload.

Who You Are & What You’ll Do

It takes time to become an expert nose and the fragrance expert for a brand, to know markets and our consumers intimately, and to make decisions very quickly. For this reason, initially, the focus will be to unlock team’s capacity by taking on a project management role, and work alongside team members in projects to develop the fragrance expertise at the level required to operate independently in the future. After 1 year in the role, the focus will shift to fragrance brand ownership more independently.

The core responsibilities of the role are:

    1. Managing regulatory projects across all markets,
    2. Building global and regional teams’ relationships to enable collaboration (brand, R&D and procurement are the key interfaces, but also Supply Chain, etc) , as well as developing and strengthening the relationship with Fragrance Houses,
    3. Leading and managing the fragrance development process, internally and externally, developing olfactive strategies, assessing fragrances in-use and making fragrance recommendations across all project types (innovation, regulatory, complexity reduction)
    4. Communicate with brand teams in a way that fragrance can be translated into non-expert terms and ability to provide expert, reassuring, positive interactions throughout the fragrance process
    5. Input into consumer test discussions and interpreting results for fragrance. While doing all this, keeping consumers and speed at the heart of everything we do! It’s very important that the candidate be a team player, who enjoys collaboration within the fragrance team and with key interfaces, who can inspire the fragrance houses to go the extra mile when things get difficult and someone who will dedicate some time, passion and energy to ensure we win as a team.
    • You’re a born leader: This job requires the candidate to be an empowered leader because we represent Unilever with our partner Fragrance Houses and we lead the fragrance process internally. Leadership will enable the process to go smooth, unlock the typical roadblocks efficiently and enable a positive experience for all involved.
    • You’re a storyteller: Fragrance is where art meets science. Storytelling is a powerful tool when sharing fragrances and getting to a common understanding of what the best way forward is with non-experts. It’s also a way to help brand teams communicate fragrance to consumers.
    • You’re a paradox navigator: For experts, fragrance is objective. For some interfaces and consumers, it’s very subjective. Navigating paradox in a way that lets Unilever win in the market place is a very valuable skill for this role.
    • You’re a culture & change champion: Fragrance is a very young capability in Unilever, and for this reason many still don’t know what we do and why they should leverage our expertise so Unilever can win with consumers.
