    BACKGROUND & PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    This position is within the Global Baby Skin Cleansing R&D Global Design team based in Trumbull, with Formulation and Processing responsibility. The candidate will have two main roles; 1. Will be responsible for leading global innovation projects across categories and developing the associated baby skin cleansing formulations, and 2. Will be responsible for launching all baby innovation projects in North America. He or she must be able to lead global projects and support multiple projects at a time. On top of the technical project leader role, the candidate will have the freedom to design proactively for the baby program and develop new formats. The candidate must have a fundamental understanding of formulation and processing principles and have a “hands-on” approach to the laboratory, pilot and factory scale-up activities; will also need to be able to translate product benefits into consumer-relevant visualizations and demonstrations. The candidate will preferably have product and process expertise in skin cleansing liquid technology as well as demonstrable capability in leading the scientific agenda. The individual needs to be able to work in a safe, disciplined manner. The position requires strong communication and team skills. This position is an exciting opportunity to develop our baby program and build on our strategic roadmap. The ambitions of the baby program are large, this position will allow high visibility and impact on the future Skin Cleansing business!

    • Partner with marketing to develop baby skin cleansing formulation that fits with the innovation pipeline. Partner with marketing, Science & Technology, and the advanced care benefits team to develop baby formulations that would advance our baby strategic roadmap. The candidate will have a hybrid role, in that they will have expertise in both formulation and processing. Accountable for product stability, safety, and performance testing, processing, specifications, etc.
    • Possess a growth mindset and a passion for the Unilever baby portfolio; will be responsible for developing technical expertise in mild skin cleansing technology, scale up and solving any factory issues upon new launches, forward thinking to fulfill baby strategic roadmap and baby program ambitions.
    • Plans, implements and evaluates research plan following Unilever global guidelines and within project budget against technical briefs and is responsible for ensuring specifications of formulation, process, pack and quality assurance are correct and delivered against project timings. Ensures proper safety checks and claims substantiation for baby products.
    • Drive productive working relationships with a range of internal and external development partners, including Brand Teams, Supply Chain, 3P manufacturers, Suppliers, University collaborations, etc.
    • With minimum supervisory input, must demonstrate the ability to present information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Responsible for managing relationships with factories, suppliers and internal/external partners for stakeholder management regarding technical issues/status.
    • Capability and comfort working across the laboratory, pilot plant and factory settings for the end-to-end accountability of the development and scale-up of baby skin cleansing technology. Will perform general Pilot Plant duties: Equipment set, batching, filling, clean-up and equipment maintenance and produce a product for consumer and clinical testing, and for stability studies.

    This position reports into the Baby Program Manager. The core responsibility is to manage the R&D formulation and process development responsibilities under the Baby program. Includes challenging & time sensitive projects that drive growth in Global Baby Brands such as Baby Dove and Zwitsal. Work cross functionally with many teams; Science & Technology, Analytical, Specification Management Team, Regulatory, Legal, NA factories, 3P’s, cluster teams, etc. Hold self and others accountable for agreed deliverables.

    WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

    • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related sciences
    • Experience in Personal Care or CPG industry preferred.
    • Working knowledge of ingredients, formulation, process and product Design principles as well as project and time management skills to coordinate multiple work streams and timelines for innovation projects.
    • Experience and passion for problem-solving (both in the lab and in the pilot plant) in a fast-paced environment with a desire to innovate.
    • Proficient in Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Working knowledge of root cause analysis, problem-solving techniques and application to existing and new products. Self-starter with the ability to think on your feet and flexibility to adapt to different scenarios
    • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships
