Background & Purpose of the Job

Product Engineering is one of the Science and Technology platforms within the Beauty & Personal Care R&D organization. Its purpose is to translate relevant science generated both internally and externally into real skin cleansing and care product formats, based on expertise in material science, emulsion science, processing, surface science, and product interaction with biological surfaces.

You will be expected to conduct the following activities as part of a cross functional project team:

    • Work with project leaders and science area leaders to explore current and novel technologies for the development of innovative personal care products
    • Use various microstructure characterization techniques to generate insights and guide product development
    • Design and conduct experiments at laboratory scale to identify product design rules
    • Work with process engineers to scale-up technologies and identify process sensitivities
    • Manage the transition of the technology from the Science and Technology platform to the product development teams
    • Understand consumer needs and translate this understanding into formulation of innovative skin cleansing and care products with new benefits
    • Demonstrate sound communication skills to present prototypes in product showings among several different functional groups and with suppliers
    • Identify and develop new approaches and capabilities to support R&D programs

Who You Are & What You’ll Do:

    • With guidance from a mentor and manager, product engineering summer interns will manage one major summer project on their own. In order to do this, summer interns are expected to assess the technical feasibility of potential raw materials, formulations and identify formulation-related issues such as cost targets, stability or safety considerations. Other responsibilities include interacting with other groups within R&D (e.g. process engineering, consumer science, and packaging), translating consumer and/or technical insights into compelling creative demos, and investigating and resolving quality issues.
    • You’re a born leader: Demonstrate bias for action and ability to drive decision making on your project.
    • You’re a dot connector: You will design & conduct experiments, collect & analyze data, and provide technically solid recommendations as a result of that work
    • You’re a story teller: You will present your project and results to senior management
    • You’re a culture & change champion: You bring your own experiences and uniqueness to the team, which is valued in our inclusive work environment
